Worth the price for quality backup!

The Sandisk Extreme Pro 1TB drive is an amazing product by a quality manufacturer. I opted for the 1TB model for the simple reason that I am a college student with very little money. Otherwise I would have went with the 4TB model as that is the storage space I needed. The speed of transfer is blazing fast. I filled this drive completely full in less than 10 minutes of recieveing it, I am an on the go music producer and needed a reliable drive for my software and audio tools. Without a doubt the drive feels like a premium material and is very well constructed. Immediately after plugging in to any of my laptops the security window appears and allows me to unlock the drive without any issues at all. I really like the included cables it comes with, which both are quality connections USB-C to USB-C and the other one is USB-C to USB-A.
I highly recommend this drive to anyone who is looking for a backup drive that isn't going to fail on you like mechanical drives do, as this is SSD and has no moving parts.
As Sandisk is still owned by Western Digital I was a little hesitant at first glance because of a previous external 5TB drive id purchased which as you can imagine the amount of data that was lost when that drive failed on me. Let me put it into perspective, I lost 15+ years of music production assets id made for several sample packs which were to be sold on several storefronts and project files all worth around $400,000 give or take a few thousand bucks. All lost due to a random drive failure. Thats a different product offered by Western Digital and does not apply to this Sandisk Extreme Pro, however i simply had some reservations in terms of choosing this backup drive as to rebuild my life after that last one.

Overall, this Sandisk Extreme Pro 1TB is a quality product and so far is worth the price, I would suggest going with the larger sized models if you can afford it because 1TB isn't much.

Fast and Portable External Drive

I picked up a SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO Portable External SSD to replace a slow Western Digital My Passport Ultra drive (120 MB/s read and write times). I wanted a fast and portable drive that I could use to store my backup files as well as store and run Parallels Virtual machines from. This would save 100+ GB on my MacBook Pro SSD.

I am very happy with the purchase so far. The build quality and device size is nice, it is simple to use, and fast. I didn't expect to see 1050 MB/s speeds, but was surprised (and happy) to see the 950 MB/s results. Real world file transfer speeds looked like they scaled appropriately based on the file size and file transfer time.

+ Speed is pretty decent for this price point (reaching ~970MBps in both sequential read or write)
+ Not overheated; temperature under heavy use during benchmark still acceptable
+ Compact form factor; similar design to the previous model (E60) but with additional metal trim around edges
+ Two cables supplied instead of USB C to A adapter (1 short cable C-to-C + 1 short cable C-to-A)
- QC from manufacturer could be better; item is factory sealed but trim around the logo looks chipped and faded in several places
- Price is almost 50% higher than previous model (E60)

Al abrirlo me sorprendió su tamaño, me lo imaginaba del tamaño de un disco duro externo como western digital, pero es más pequeño y delgado. Es tan delgado como mi smartphone (Moto Z2 Play) con funda, y mucho más pequeño (foto adjunta). Es súper portable.

Incluye 2 cortos (muy cortos) cables:
- USB A a USB C
- USB C a USB C

Así que debería ser compatible con cualquier computadora moderna que incluya puerto USB A o USB C.

En cuanto a durabilidad promete, pues utiliza tecnología TLC. Si en el futuro falla antes de lo esperado actualizaré mi reseña.

Como sugerencia antes de usarlo recomiendo que lo formatees a NTFS. Claro, respalda antes la carpeta que tiene incluida que incluye un software para encriptar una carpeta. Y después de formatearlo vuelves a poner la carpeta con el software en el disco sandisk.

La anécdota que da pie a mi recomendación es la siguiente:

Compré este disco duro externo para respaldar la información de un disco duro mecánico (HDD) que está en formato NTFS y con 550 GBs de datos.

Como inicialmente venía con formato exFAT, no le tomé importancia y simplemente copié todos los datos de mi HDD interno al SSD externo. El proceso duró 4 horas y media y al final noté que los datos en el SSD externo ocupaban casi 650 GBs. Casi 100 GBs más que lo que ocupaba en mi HDD interno. Y la velocidad de transferencia me descepcionó.

Al día siguiente formateé el SSD externo a NTFS y volví a hacer el respaldo. Esto resolvió los problemas. La transferencia fue mucho más rápida y ahora sí ocupaba 550 GBs.

Solo remarco mi recomendación, antes de usarlo formatéalo a NTFS! (no olvides respaldar el software incluido para encriptar).

¿Lo necesitas?
La gente que entra a ver las reseñas de este producto es porque sabe que necesita un SSD externo.

¿Funciona?
Funciona excelente. En cuando a la velocidad de la transferencia dependerá del tamaño de los archivos y tu dispositivo. Hay que tener en cuenta que los SSD por naturaleza no son los mejores lidiando con archivos pequeños. En mi caso yo lo ocupo para transferir las fotos (RAW) de mi cámara a él, editar desde él, y exportar en él. La transferencia es rápida, inclusive si transfiero carpetas grandes con 10-20gb de fotos.

¿Se calienta?
Obvio, claro que se calienta, como todos, pero no exageradamente, y solo durante largas transferencias. Si lo piensas dejar conectado a tu laptop no te preocupes, mientras no está en uso, no se calienta ni crea ningún tipo de molestia.

¿Este o la versión "non-Pro" (550 mb/s)?
En mi caso, yo compré este (Pro) porque estaba al mismo precio que la versión que no es "Pro", y porque mi computadora cuenta con puerto USBC 3.1 Gen 2 (Para aprovechar las velocidades de 1000 mb/s). Sin embargo, si vas a editar fotos y/o video Full HD, tal vez no valga la pena pagar el extra por esta versión Pro. Ya que es más pequeño y delgado.

Calidad
Como se puede ver en las imágenes, la parte trasera es de un plástico suave, como tipo silicona. El marco es de aluminio. Físicamente tal vez no es el más bonito de los SSDs externos, pero en lo personal me gusta que donde quiera que lo pongas no raspa con nada, es suave.

Notas:
1. Asegúrate de que tu dispositivo cuente con USBC 3.1 Gen 2 si quieres aprovechar la máxima velocidad que brinda.
2. Por el tipo de material, puede ser un tanto difícil encontrar la manera de "pegarlo" a tu laptop. Algo que sería más fácil con un Samsung T7, ya que al ser completamente de aluminio, puedes pegarle un velcro.
