Top Customer Reviews
So, I took it back to my machine and began to play with it. Nothing. I read a LOT of problem reviews on the web about it, and tried some of the hints. The ONLY WAY I CAN GET IT TO WORK is to go to Device Manager, and Uninstall the device (under Disk Drives)while it is plugged in. Then pull it out, reboot my C, and then reinsert it, at which point it will reload all the software again and allow me to read what is on the flash drive. What a pain in the butt!
I called SanDisk tech support and they pointed me to a series of steps to try to get it working (published on their web), but to no avail. Finally, they said there must be something wrong with my PC, even though I have 10 other types of USB drives from various manufacturers (including SanDisk) laying around that ALL WORK JUST FINE in the same USB ports I am trying to use this device with. They agreed to replace the 2 flash drives with IDENTICAL UNITS ONLY -- what good will that do, since their software and device does not work with my system? I was willing to try a different type of SanDisk drive, but they would not even allow me to pay any difference in price.
And, YES, I did try the workaround of modifying the Registry entry to force a hard disconnect when an eject was done. That also did not work. I will NOT uninstall the software and reinstall it each time I want to use this flash drive. I'm giving them away and buying either Patriot or Lexar -- proven devices for use in all machines, not just some. But, hey, maybe they will work in your PC. If not you are subject to a 15% restocking fee if you want to return them.
By the way, they are also a pain to plug into the USB port because your thumb invariably hits the retract button that allows it to retract as you try to slide it in. A poor product in my opinion. If you are still bent on buying it, Google for problems using SanDisk with Windows 7 and read for yourself that I am not alone in having problems as I have described with this device. Just beware.
This drive writes relatively fast (USB 2), and is a simple plug and play. You plug it into your computer (Win 7), and the computer recognize it almost immediately. It's east to use, like most other brands, but a bit cheaper.
One star taken off because the red locking mechanism slip a bit too easy, and sometimes will cause the connector to retract. Other that that, a simple and reliable USB.
For Surface users: making a copy of the recovery partition allows you to delete it and gives you an extra 8GB of disk space.
