For my test of the flash drive write speed. I choose one particular folder on my computer hard drive containing 190 files (jpg, pdf, doc and mp4) in 6 sub-folders. The folder was identified as having 1.01GB, with the "Size on disk" reported as 1,094,828,032 bytes. I inserted the flash drive **directly** into a USB port on the computer (not into an external hub) and proceeded to do a normal copy and paste operation of the folder (I assume a drag and drop operation would be identical). The result, performed twice to insure accuracy, was 121 seconds duration, equivalent to 9.04 mb/sec (lets call it 9 mb/sec).
So how good or how bad is this result? Clearly if you expect the Sandisk published results for a USB 3.0 flash drive, given as "Up to 90MB/Sec" for this particular model, you will be very disappointed. However to be fair, the 90MB/sec was never identified to be the write speed. Furthermore, a USB 3.0 port on a more recent OS would probably operate faster. Sandisk now has a faster flash drive, identified as "Extreme PRO" which will certainly perform much better but of course at a higher price point.
As a point of interest, if speed is the most important criteria, a small size portable hard drive should be considered. Such a drive, now readily available in 1TB, up to 4TB sizes and more, should produce significantly faster write speeds. Of course, physically it's still much larger than a flash drive.
In conclusion, for me, this is a very satisfactory "Cruzer Glide" flash drive with enormous storage space. It is seemingly well made with clean, positive slider action. It has a relatively large hole at one end to insert an optional lanyard and when placed into a USB port, a blue LED light is displayed. It is certainly not the fastest on the market, nor is it the most expensive. So knowing what it can and cannot do, and for the price paid, I give it 3 stars.
