This low profile flash drive was the perfect solution to allow me to use a flash drive and still close the cover. It writes fast and I use a little figurine on a string that helps me to pull it out when I need to.
The little tether ring thing is very small, you'll need something about the diameter of dental floss. A normal sized keychain isn't going to work.
The couple of times I pulled it out, it fell to the ground and was a bit hard to find, because it is so small and difficult to get a hold of. If you need to insert and pull it from the USB slot often, a fishing string can be added to the side of the USB drive (there is a small hole to insert the string and tie a knot).
There is a small orange indicator light and I kind of like it. When it is writing or reading, the light will blink attractively.
A simple speed test of copying and reading a 1GB file was done on Windows 7:
Write: 4.10 MB/s
Read: 16.5 MB/s
Being used as a USB flash drive to play music from is fine because you're not going to be constantly writing to it. The car reads from the flash drive, and that's about it.
There's a little red light embedded in the plastic that blinks when the drive is being accessed. It's not bright enough to be obnoxious, but it is bright enough to be seen as long as it's not being used in direct sunlight.
The read speeds are mediocre at best but again that's not an issue when you're just using it to play music.
The write speeds are downright atrocious - so mind bendingly slow I thought my computer only recognized it as a USB1.1 device. My initial load of music to fill it up took hours to transfer 6gb of music.
It does score points, however, for being so tiny. It slides into the slot in the car and hides out of sight and out of the way. Plug it into the dash with no fear that your clumsy hamfisted friend will bump into it while getting into your car and snap off and break the USB connector! Inconspicuously insert it into the headunit and don't worry about making a long laser light-show protrusion out of your dash! Discretely load 16gb of music into a small flash drive that blends into your interior and also fits in tight spaces.

Although usually called a "thumb drive," this one should be called a thumbnail drive. It is that small. The KIA manual warns against bumping the drive while it is inserted in the vehicle. That is pretty much impossible with this one. It is barely large enough to grip for removal. The drive came preformatted in FAT32. This is what is recommended by KIA. The drive comes with a program on it to encrypt the drive for password-only access. This the KIA has no provisions for. I didn't know if the presence of non-mp3 files would confuse the KIA, so I transferred them to my computer for possible future use. Then I loaded over 7000 mp3 files on the drive and plugged it into the vehicle. The system told me it was "loading data," which took about 10 minutes. When it was finished, I pushed the "Media" button on the dash, and selected USB. I then pressed "Play," and sure enough, my music came out. I then selected random mode. All worked fine. This sure saves on CD's!
Sadly, I can't return this thing, since I waited way too long to use it. I'm well outside the return period, which is totally my fault. But, just beware! Even if it's Prime/Amazon, you may not get exactly what you were looking for. I am very surprised, as this is the first
time a "Sold by Amazon" item has had an issue like this in my experience.
