Excellent product

I recently purchased a 2006 MacBook Pro - an oldy - to use as a fishing-trip travel companion. I slapped an SSD drive in it and added this ExpressCard adapter to allow it to read SDHC chips. This is a very nice addition, one that allows me to quickly load and transfer images off of my 2GB to 32GB chips from my various digital cameras.

The fact that I can take a 32Gb SDHC chip out of my camera and transfer the images to my computer's SSD with remarkable speed and ease is due entirely to this little SanDisk adapter. I have other USB2 SD card readers, but none are as quick or capable as this little item. A USB3 card reader would be useless in a 10 year old computer, as the USB connectors are at best USB2.

Note that I took considerable care to make sure that the first time I inserted the card reader it was correctly oriented so as to avoid damaging the delicate connection surfaces. Once it is correctly oriented, it slides in with ease and seats itself. If pushed in again, it will release and will easily spring out about 1/2 inch in as it remains within the ExpressCard slot. It can then be fully removed.

Properly seated, the ExpressCard is flush with the computer body, but the inserted SD and SDHC cards extend 3/4" beyond the body of the computer. However, for my purposes they are only briefly present in any event.

I really like this product and would recommend it for others in a similar situation, especially at the price.

Using this adapter with 2011 17" Macbook Pro.

Works great with my 2011 17" Macbook Pro. The adapter fits completely flush inside the computer so you can just plug it in and forget about it. But as others have noted, the downside is SD cards will stick out about half and inch. Not too big a deal, but be careful to remove cards before moving the laptop or putting it in a bag. That's really my only reason for not giving a perfect five star review. Also very appreciative of getting it long before the promised delivery date. In the end this adapter is definitely worth the money.

Great SD Express Card

I have ThinkPad with a built in SD card reader that stopped working. So I ordered an SD express card and it works great. This is the second time I have purchased this item. The first was for the other ThinkPad that had no built in SD reader. It very simple to install and works instantly. Definitely if you need a SD card reader and have the slot for an Express Card this is better than the USB SD reader.

It does not say it does but I just tested it with my Sandisk 64GB Extreme something or other and it works like a charm. Not exactly sure how fast the read/write speeds are but it moved 10 gigs over pretty quick (to the SSD on my mac) and it went fast enough for me not to complain. Awesome deal for the price. And for mac users on older macs without SD card readers, this is perfect, no need to ever remove it because it goes flush with the body of the mac!

It works flawlessly, as you would assume of a product from SanDisk: plugged right in, reads my SD cards fast and furiously, pops right out (as if I'd ever want to take it out). Fits flush in the laptop so nothing sticking or hanging out. I don't know why I haven't purchased something like this before now. The truth is that up until a year ago, I didn't know I had the port on my Macbook Pro that would accept one of these. I digress...

Shipping was also fast and was delivered on the Memorial Day holiday, as Prime insists.

Works as expected in Late 2011 MacBook Pro 17

Fits fine in the slot. I'm running Mavericks and I didn't need to mess around with drivers or any other nonsense. Seems to be quite a bit faster than several USB card readers I own. Keep in mind, however, the MacBook I'm using is only USB 2.0. If you already have USB 3 and a card reader that is also USB 3 then there may not be much speed benefit to going this route (honestly though I have no idea because I haven't compared the two).
