What shocked me when I opened this up was just how tiny this player is. It's a little thing. But the screen does tell you what you need to know. It's just the right size. Apple doesn't give you a screen until you pay them more than $100. As for functionality, it could NOT be easier. When I plug this into my Mac, it pops up on the desktop. I just open iTunes and start dragging songs into it, and that's IT! Stuff copies over lightning fast, complete with all the album and song info. Then if I want to delete something from the player, I drag it to the trash. Wow. Simple. Amazing.
Battery life on this player is great. I've left it running for at least 6 or 7 hours and it barely puts a dent in the battery. In fact, as I write this, I have yet to run the battery down. I have charged it a few times, but I still haven't drained it all the way down in my general use. It's great.
The only issue I've run into so far has been getting the artwork to show up. However, I've resolved that issue. I contacted SanDisk support, and they walked me through several troubleshooting steps, including updating the firmware, checking my image sizes, image types, etc. Nothing seemed to work. Ultimately, I did several experiments on my own and I found my answer. Apparently, my old music in my old version of iTunes had Mp3 files that were still using the ID3 tags version 2.2 or lower. Apparently this player requires music with ID3 tags version 2.3 or higher in order to show the artwork. So I downloaded a program called ID3 Editor, and changed the tags. Voila! Artwork shows! Even though this was a big deal to me, I would not say that this should affect my score of the product. I got this to listen to music, not to view artwork. And once I fixed the songs, the artwork shows great. Maybe this will be fixed in future versions.
This little player has so many lovable features. The settings like brightness and power saving features are great. The ability to repeat a single song, or a whole album is great. The fact that you can actually set up "folders" on this player and then navigate through the actual folders on the player is just awesome. Oh, and an FM Player! Oh, and this thing actually has a microSD card slot! You won't find that on an "i" device. It almost takes me back to the days of tape players. You could literally load up different music sets on different cards and swap them out any time you choose. Simple.
Time will tell if this player lasts, but just looking at the functionality of it right now, I think it's the BEST thing since the original iPod. Here's to competition. Go SanDisk!
UPDATE 2017-12-07: I'm still using my little SanDisk player, and it's still going strong. It holds its charge for days before I need to recharge it, and it's still SO easy to update my music files. It doesn't ever ask to be updated and it's low low maintenance. It just works. I hope they keep selling it!
UPDATE 2018-05-04: Yep. Still going strong. Battery still lasts for a very long time. No issues at all.
UPDATE 2019-07-30: I still have it. Still use it regularly. Still working great and holds a charge just fine. No issues.
UPDATE 2022-02-26: Still working great! Even after all these years, it still holds a charge for days. Amazing.
I use my sandisk players for audiobooks. This version of the clip is compatible with Audible but not Overdrive which is offered by many public libraries in the US. I only hope that Sandisk with do something. I am not sure if it is compatible with the music services. So read the reviews that deal with that side of the Sport.
Revision: When I bought the Sport, I was under the faults impression since it was the latest and greatest, it would accept at least a 32 gb micro SD card. When I consulted the manual I was surprised to find out that it will only accept a 4 gb or a 8 gb cards. So with an 8 gb card install and formatted, I again plugged it into the computer and went to Audible. No problem this time, but it you put your books on the memory card, you have to go to "Folders" option and manually go through the Audible folder to the book you want to listen to. I have a clip + that finds all the files wherever they are and puts them in the "Books" option. So there are many limitations due to hardware or software that is a step back for the Sandisk line of players. I don't notice any better battery life than the Fuse or prior Clip models.
Sound quality is tops. The Clip+ and Clip Zip are all around superior products from Sandisk.
Sometimes, it will come back to life, but not for long. This one is dead now too. Took it apart and you can see the green fuzz/oxidation on the circuit board where the moisture caused it to fry.
There isn't a single seal of any kind in this entire player, no moisture proofing whatsoever on the circuit board.
EDIT: OK, I've got my own hate now. The thing quit working today while I was running. Sport? No way. It behaves as if the volume button is stuck in the lower/down position. Restart doesn't help. Turn it on, and it goes silent immediately. I thought maybe I'd sweat on it too much (although for a "sports" player, you'd think it could take a little sweat). I couldn't find any sweat on it. Furthermore, I'd covered the micro SC slot with duck tape and have put a rubber plug in the USB port, so there are no big openings for sweat to get in.
FAIL
Hopefully SanDisk will make this right. But I hate having to go through a return process for a few week old electronics product that should just work.

I know there's a lot of hate for this little player, but I can't share it. For the money, this is a great little device. I'm replacing a very old SanDisk DAP (a silver bullet that took a AAA battery, 1 gig) so maybe that's why I like this one so much. That unit was decent for the time, but it's eclipsed by the clip sport.
PROS
-Very light weight
-Pretty small considering it's got a legible screen
-Very good sound quality. Better than my phone or previous players. (I use the same files and same buds on them, so I know the difference is the player. I heard stuff in some of my tracks that I have never actually heard before, background vocals and so forth.)
-Controls are pretty intuitive and easy to use
-Equalizer with a few handy presets
-Works just fine with MediaMonkey, which is what I use to keep track of my music collection anyway, since WMP won't access an NAS in windows 8
-Takes cheap micro SC cards right in the side, with an exciting eject that literally tosses them across your desk.
-The biggest bonus is you don't have to use iTunes, otherwise known as the worst piece of bloatware ever written.
CONS
Screen isn't all that high res (I don't care, but some nerd might)
Headphone jack comes out of the side. Top might be easier for some uses.
Have to figure out some way to spend all the money you saved not buying some overpriced POCrud Apple device.
Won't impress shallow people who judge you by how much you spent on an iDevice

If you would like the higher volume simply select North America when you first boot up your player however keep in mind it could damage your hearing hence why the EU has a law prohibiting players from being so loud.
The build quality is nice even though the player is amazingly light, the buttons feel nice and have a satisfying click. The earphones come with extra buds of different sizes and surprisingly they are very pleasing to use. The sound is very "warm" compared to my other pairs of earphones making it very pleasing to use them.
One flaw is that the songs on your SD card are put into separate folders so you cannot shuffle between internal storage songs, the player also has no clock.
