I ordered this along with a Nikon D40 from Amazon. Nikon recommends SanDisk and the 2 GB size seemed like enough. Some recommend the newer III version, but this was readily available and I thought it would be more than sufficient.

SD cards are tiny, the size of a small postage stamp, and yet can hold hundreds of photos. Amazing digital film. Someday, computers will replace their spinning disks with this sort of memory and that will be a good thing.

The first function of a memory card is to not fail. If it does, all your photos go away and your expensive camera will be worthless. There also can be errors that prevent things from working and make you crazy. So far, no failures or errors.

After that, there are issues with speed. Modern digital cameras, especially the DSLRs, take a lot of photos fast and there is a lot of data that has to be stuffed quickly into the card so as to not slow things down. I have not noticed any bottlenecks, even when shooting rapid fire. Same goes when downloading. Nothing bad noticed there, either.

The 2 GB card holds over 500 photos at the Large and Fine full 6.1 MP setting in my camera, according to the screen info. I haven't maxed out the card, so that may not be totally accurate. Your mileage may vary depending on the MPs you use and other settings.

Some knowledgable photographers use the smaller settings like Normal, instead of Fine, because they can take more photos on a card. They say nobody can see any difference in quality. I like the idea of using all the pixels I paid for.

With any card, it is a good idea to format after every session (after safely downloading your photos first!). This prevents errors in many cases and also frees up all the memory you paid for and thus the camera that you really paid for.

Finally, even though your card may been just fine for a long time, you should know that if you go on that exotic vacation it will fail the first day. It is recommended that you get a spare if you are doing important stuff or if you will be taking zillions of photos.

SO...after trying an assortment of camcorders with digital zoom only (and the garbage pictures you get with them, even at 1080P), I've gone back to my old, reliable, and very capable Samsung MiniDV 60X optical zoom, 1200X digital zoom 480P camera. The optical zoom makes all the difference - where the digital-zoom-only cameras can only enlarge the pixels, the optical-zoom camera narrows the field-of-view so you can use all of the pixels on the smaller filmed area, practically eliminating pixellation altogether. The problem with the miniDV tapes is, of course, that they have (on the finest picture setting) a capacity of only 65 minutes. The 2GB SD has, by contrast, a 125 minute capacity on the same setting. The SD cards I bought when the camera was new were, I'm sure, the equivalent of Class 1 (it was, after all, nearly a decade ago) and sometimes the recording had a tendency to stutter. These Class 4 chips have eliminated that and, even with only 2GB of capacity, nearly doubled the amount of video I can shoot without a media change. Plus, the camera battery lasts much longer because the camera doesn't have to run the tape motor to pull the tape across the recording heads. It's an inexpensive boost to the performance of what is an aging, but still very formidable, camera.

I purchased this card for my wife along with a Canon Powershot SD-550 camera. The card comes in a protective case that is really handy if you're the type who just likes to throw stuff in a purse (my wife)...

I haven't been able to test the true read and write speed of the card because I don't have a SD slot in my computer, but the camera has no lag in burst mode, so it's at least fast enough to take whatever canon is dishing out.

I have had zero problems with it since purchase and even if I had any, I'm confident Sandisk would be there to quickly remedy the situation. I've purchased a CompactFlash card and two USB flash drives from them. The CF card is still going strong but both USB flash drives died. One about 7 months after purchase and the other after only a few weeks. In both cases I was impressed with Sandisk's customer service. After determinig that the Flash drives were indeed hosed, they sent me new drives free of charge and paid for the return of the defective ones. No hassle and no acting like I was trying to get one over them.

I always say that any monkey outfit can manufacture and sell you stuff, but a great company shines when something goes wrong. For that reason alone, I recommend sandisk products to my friends.

I have used this 2 gig card for about a year now. I currently have 4 of these. I have taken hundreds of snap shots, and a number of movies with them. I have never ever experienced one problem. Never lost any pictures. Never lost any movies. Every picture turned out outstanding, as did every movie. I have used these cards in my both of Canon Powershot A710is. I have also used the sandisk 4 gig card. I own 2 of those, and recently purchased 2 more 4 gig cards. My 4 gig sandisk cards also work very well.

Before I made my decisions to purchase them, I went to their website to check for compatibility. When I got the cards, the first thing I did with all of them was format them. After I uploaded my pictures and movies to my computer, I would format it again for my next use. As I said, I have had absolutely no problems with them, and just ordered two more. You can't beat the price for such quality. For me, they have been flawless, and I recommend them highly.

I don't know what to say or think about those who experienced problems. I guess there are times when some things, no matter how great a reputation they may have, just go ker-flooey. I have been really successful & pleased with mine.

This particular card only seems to have half the capacity that it should have. With a Canon EOS450D DSLR, I normally get about 350 images out of a Sandisk Ultra 2GB card. It is fast enough for the camera but there's only about enough space for 170 images.
