It may seem contrary to my quest for the one gadget to rule them all but I wanted a small, inexpensive, few-frills media player that would serve while working around the house and in the car <for the passenger to use>. My N900 does rule, but I don't want to break that while mucking about.

Enter the Clip+. It handles audiobooks (even Audible format) and podcast with bookmarking. This player handles everything except video (which you probably don't want if you are looking at a Clip+). Want FM radio? The Clip+ has it -- even recording - not just voice recording but the radio as well.

Oh, did I mention I am a Linux user? I want drag-and-drop music management. It handles non-Apple formats with grace and ease. Make sure the file suffix is "ogg" as "oga" is not recognized by the Sansa firmware. Or, just RockBox it and don't worry at all. Actually, I had to Rockbox it as the media refreshing would freeze about 3/4 the way through. For this I had to lower this from a 5-star to a 4-star. Not every end user would know about/how to Rockbox (although the process is dead simple, on Mac-Win-Linux).

I have had this MP3 player for over two years now and it is still going strong. I listen to audio books that I download from the library's website and I wear it when I am out kayaking. The awesome thing about this Sansa clip is that it is simple and unsophisticated and it doesn't recognize that my books should have expired so I can listen until I am finished and then delete. It gets linked to my computer via a usb cable and the books then get transferred to the MP3 player within minutes. It will hold 12-15 books depending on their length.

Bought this little guy with a 32GB card and was hoping to have it as a battery packed, long lasting player. AS I ride motorcycles, I like to listen to music on my ride. Found this guy to last maybe 1-2 hours against a little chill, and dies. Even very unexpectedly at the gym too. 60-70 degree inside gym. The battery will show 60%+ of battery life, I turn my head and BAM, battery low alerts and it shuts down. I'll probably contact SanDisk and see what they can do for me and I'll be back to update based on my experience with warranty, service, etc.

Had to return one then get another then returned that one. Problem is the sound is very low even on "high". Only two volumes, "Normal" and "High" which are both low. I purchased better earbuds and still poor sound. Good news is that Amazon took both of them back and credited my account with no hassles or question even though packages were already cut. I now have an Eclipse which has external volume control and is excellent. Anyway, thanks Amazon for such great customer service.

My computer would not recongize this unit when plugged into usb port. Went through SANSA and followed all troubleshooting instructions, to no avail. Found numerous situations of people who had the same problem. 2. Tried charging in case power was the problem, but it locked up on the "connected to the computer" screen (which could not access from my computer. I own the next version of this and love it. Returns w/ Amazon not as good as I expect. I needed to pay return postage, and they will reimburse me. Gotta go to the P.O. (ugh) SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4 GB MP3 Player (Blue)

I got this little thing on Christmas morning, and it is so much better than what I was expecting. The sound quality is AMAZING for the price. It is even good compared to the sound I am used to getting from expensive Apple products. It works exactly as you would think it should work, and there is no learning curve when first using it. Songs can be sorted in alphabetical order, by artist, by album, or by playlist. Playlists can even be made on the go simply by holding down the center button. The use of this product is very similar to my experience with the iPod Classic. Songs can be put on shuffle or repeat. There is a built in FM radio and a recorder. I wasn't expecting much from either, but I was surprised to find that both work better than most other things I've tried, especially the recorder. I used the recorder to record part of a song played by a laptop, and, upon playback, the recording was nearly the same quality as the original song. I was a little worried about the very small size of the player before it came, but after playing with it for a while I realize that it is the perfect size to clip to anything I am wearing or hold in the palm of my hand. The battery life seems good as well, although I haven't used it extensively yet. The main selling feature for me, though, was that the player can easily be expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card. I bought the 4GB player and intend to swap out the microSD as soon as I have a little extra money for a bigger card.

The only thing I might complain about is that the headphones that came in the box with the player are absolutely awful. I used them to first test out the sound quality and was disappointed until I plugged in a pair of headphones I know are excellent.

The SanDisk Sansa Clip+ is a great mp3 player in a very compact size. While the player is small and light, the display is easy to read and of sufficient size. The tonal quality is very good and the number of preset equalizers (rock, jazz, etc.) allow tailoring of the tonal quality to suit differing styles of music as well as personal preferences. If one of the preset equalizers does not suit the user, there is also a "custom" equalizer which allows tailoring by frequency range. Volume is more than adequate without going into the "blow out your eardrums" range.

The player works (as advertised) with Audible audio books, although it only plays those files downloaded in Audible format 4. The lithium-ion battery has good capacity, lasting for quite a few hours. Charging of the unit is done through a standard mini-USB plug and can be done from a computer or a home or automobile charger. Overall, the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ is an excellent value.
