Do NOT buy a Fuze+, look for an older model.

Having bought an original Fuze for myself and one for my wife and having convinced two co-workers to buy the original Fuze, you could say I am a fan.

I wanted to buy my father one as a Christmas present and thought it would be nice to pre-load it with old time radio shows (my main use of the original Fuze). I thought that the new Fuze+ would be an improvement, but I was badly mistaken.

First off, the new Fuze+ does not have folders. If you have 1,000 episodes you have to scroll through all of them, as opposed to scrolling through folders that list them by show (i.e., if you have Jack Benny, Fred Allen, and Henry Morgan you do not see folders, but rather all of the individual files).

The start up is cruelly slow now.

The user interface is unwieldy and the buttons are overly sensitive. Yes, it looks more like an Apple product, but it does not work as well as a Sansa Fuze (original).

I expected there to be some issues in figuring out a new machine, but the problem with this one is that once you figure it out it is still inferior to the older model. Perhaps I am missing something and it is a wonderful player, but having read the directions (something I did not need to do on the original Fuze) I still found it awful to use.

Do yourself a favor and either wait until they have provided better software for this dog or buy something else...anything else.

I sent mine back and ordered an original Fuze, which is a brilliant product.

This is a terrible MP3 player

I will start by saying that yes, I have UPDATED THE FIRMWARE. My review is based on the latest firmware.

I LOVED my old Sansa Fuze (the scroll wheel one). But the wheel finally stopped working and I had to replace it. Sadly, they don't sell the old one anymore so I thought I would give the Fuze+ a shot.

After really trying to like this player for 3 months, I have completely given up. It is BEYOND FRUSTRATING to use! As you have all read, the touch controls are wildly inaccurate. You hit the center button and it skips a song. You try to pause a song and it skips to the next song. It is, by far, the WORST touch screen controls I have EVER used. It's as if they completely rushed this piece of garbage to the market just to say "hey, we have a touch screen!"

Scrolling through artists takes an eternity, and good luck trying to get it to stop on the one you actually want. It is SO difficult to use! And don't even try to operate this while driving - you WILL hurt someone!

The Fuze+ takes FOREVER to load once you add songs to it. If you have 16GB of songs, it literally takes 30 minutes! So once I had filled it up, I decided I wouldn't change any songs on it - otherwise I would have to sit and wait,...and wait...and wait...

Another issue I was having is that the player would NOT resume playback from a song! Every time I turned it off during a song and turned it back on, it would do nothing. As soon as I hit "play", it started playing the song over from the beginning! I contacted Sansa, they said it sounded defective and sent me a new one. And guess what? The new one did the exact same thing! Unbelievable.

The only reason I gave this two stars is because it is the best sounding MP3 player on the market, and the screen is nice. However, they use super cheap plastic to cover the screen and it scratches VERY easily.

Overall, this is a piece of garbage. You will regret buying this. You have been warned!

And by the way, you can still buy the original Fuze on ebay. I got an 8GB refurbished one for twenty five dollars. It is better than the Fuze+ in almost every single way.

I bought the Sansa Fuze a few months ago when I discovered my long line of Sony Walkman's (a loyal user for 7 years and many, many mp3 players that couldn't hold up to the torture I put them through- which was their only downfall). Well, Sansa is the only portable mp3 player that is supported by Rhapsody- leaving this product to be my only option
I'm comparing the item to the Sony Walkman, so let it be known I am biased. If this is your first mp3 player- I bet it will be a lot easier to control.

Powering on: It takes well over 15 seconds for mine. If I hold the power button for to long, it doesn't turn on at all.

Battery Life: Amazingly long. It automatically turns off when paused for too long, which is a con considering how long it takes to turn on. But I only charge mine about once a week, and I use it daily.

Lock Setting: So tricky. Even after 3 months of continuous use. If you hold the button down for too long, it turns off. Hold the button down not long enough- nothing happens. It shows the lock/unlock screen for at least 3 seconds.

Menu: In order to get to anything, I have to go through the horrid touch screen menu. It's an mp3. I don't need to go through radio and photos. Granted, I do love the fact that it can hold Audible books. That's just awesome.

Touch Screen: Probably the most annoying thing I have ever had to deal with regarding technology. It isn't touch screen, it's touch button. And very sensitive, or not so sensitive. Let's say you're trying to search for that ONE song...so you're on one song, and you need to press the "back" button...it takes to main menu. Then to the "Artist" screen...scroll over to "albums" and then to "songs" and then allll the way down. But there is either a slow "one-at-time" option or a "super speed scroll" option. So you see the song.... and 4 more songs to go by going "one at a time".. and then suddenly it blasts into super speed scrolling. It's just difficult to control.
Then there is the issue that the buttons don't work much of the time, or the middle "options" screen that accidentally pops when scrolling, of which some options are "rate song" or "delete song file".. Which is rather aggravating when you press delete song file.

Navigability: Once again, I am accustomed to the walkman- Where I could change songs half asleep, find any song with my eyes closed, and always know what I am doing. With this, it may just be me, but it seems inconsistent. When I finally think I learn how to easily navigate it, it throws me for a loop by another screen popping up. I use this while Driving, and I am not confident whatsoever in attempting to navigate all of the screen jumping and super scrolling while in traffic. I am used to the thoughtless navigation of the walkman.
The volume button seems out of place for me. It is on the left side, a thumb control. A few months in and I still want to press the volume with my fingers, not reposition my hand around it to use my thumbs.

Finally, the biggest annoyance for me : Shuffle Option.
Since I can't navigate to my favorite songs, I use the shuffle and skip through til I find one I'm in the mood for. I am used to a shuffle that numbers 300 songs so a song will play once in a rotation. This makes sense to me. In Sansa's shuffle, A certain song will always be alphabetically #179..... so Maybe I will skip through #179, or #31 quite a few times, sometimes one after another... before I finally hear #2. I am sure there are songs that have never been played on my shuffle list. I'm not sure if this is an attempt to be a "smart" mp3 by remembering your favorite songs you play over and over... or maybe I am giving this device way too much credit and it's just a major flaw.

Things I do love: Tells when track licenses are about to be out of date, and does a day to day countdown for you when "the end" is near.
As well as song playback. It will pause the song where you stop when you switch- when you come back to it, it's right there.

As for price... It's a little on the expensive side. 3 months since buying it, I have forgotten about the price already. It has still held up just fine, even when I have gotten to the point of wanting to throw it out the window.

Since this is the only mp3 that Rhapsody supports.... (I liked napster, I'm just stuck with rhapsody...I guess this is the same situation) This will have to do. There are a few things I like about it... I can deal with the time to turn it on and the volume. But the navigability needs to be simpler, and the shuffle option is just a nuisance. If it was fixed, it would be tolerable substitute for the irreplaceable Sony Walkman.
