When transitioning from regular hard drives, the performance is very noticeable. Operating Systems go from half a minute to just booting up in seconds. Power consumption goes down, and the drives has no moving parts which means no sound.
These drives also fit in many newer cases that have a spot for 2.5", all laptops have accommodated them well with no additional accessories, and in certain cases I have purchased the Caddies/cages to install in 3.5" spaces.
I installed this in my laptop and installed a fresh copy of windows 8.1 on it, I noticed that the laptop was installing windows really fast, when I finished the setup I installed all the drivers and was ready to start using the laptop, I downloaded the AS SSD Benchmark and I tested the speed on the SSD, When I benchmarked it, I was surprised when I saw this SSD with amazing benchmarks, it is actually really close to the samsung 850 evo SSD which casts allot more, When you put both SSD's side by side they get really similar results, but when I transfer files yeah I can kind of tell the difference between the two drives.
Overall its an amazing SSD, really fast and great read and write speeds
This 5 year old laptop was destined for the recycle bin because it was horrifically slow but will now be used until Windows 10 goes EOL or there's a massive hardware failure. I had my reservations about this investment, but now I'm thrilled that I took the leap and would do it again in a heartbeat.
If you want to upgrade to Windows 10, but are worried that it could error while installing and basically crash your computer, get one of these. Install it in a spare bay or get a cable to connect it externally. Download a free cloning program and clone your main drive to this one. Then take out your main drive. This will make the computer boot of the new SSD. Upgrade your PC to Windows 10 on this drive. If something goes wrong, you still have your older windows undamaged on your other drive. Put your original drive back in and boot up into the BIOS menu. Change your boot order to have your new drive before your old one. Reboot and you're done.
I know that may sound technical, but you can google how to do each step. Broken down into steps, it's not as hard as it may sound.
(No, I got nothing for this review and don't work for any company concerned. I bought this thinking I could just get my free copy of 10 and install it clean on this drive, only to find out that Microsoft only registers your computer as being OK to install a fresh copy of 10 on after you complete an upgrade. I figured out this process with a bit of research.)
I've used "AOMEI Backuper" to clone. You can also use "Macrium Reflect". Both of them are pretty easy to use. Also, you'll need a SATAIII to USB cable for cloning.
