What you need to know about this card and compatibility with other devices:

This Sandisk Ultra Micro-SD is a really high quality card for the money. The description says it’s “made for amazon”, leading you to believe that it’s better suited for the Amazon Fire Tablet than other cards. This is just a marketing ploy. This card is a standard issue Micro-SD card and other well reviewed Micro-SD cards are just as effective. This also means that this Micro-SD card can be used by any device (not just amazon devices) that is compatible with the Micro-SD standard. So don’t be scared of buying this for any other tablets, phones…etc that can take Micro-SD cards.

Speed Classes:

Micro-SD cards (or memory cards in general) are classified by how fast their Read/Write Speeds are. This is important because if you are using a memory card to capture/record high resolution video, you want to get a card that is fast enough to ‘write’ the data onto the card while it’s recording. Now that there are some devices (including some phones) that are capable of recoding 4K video (The highest resolution video currently on the market), high write speed in a card becomes an essential, required feature in a memory card. This specific card is rated as “CLASS 10”. What does this mean? It means that this card has to be able to write/record the data onto the card at the minimum rate of 10MB/sec. That’s really fast for a minimum write speed. If you are buying a memory card to just hold/archive data with, you may not need such a high speed card and can buy a slower card for cheaper.

Lucky enough to buy both an Amazon Fire TV and a 7" tablet, I wanted to boost the storage, and this does the job perfectly. Just pop it into the device, and you’ve got Gigabytes of space. A 64Gb card will store 64 billion characters of data or around 94 hours of SD video.

I've included a sequence of photos below showing how to install it in an Amazon Tablet.

In addition to the Amazon Fire range, it will also work in just about any video/SLR camera or tablet computer, and at 45MB/sec it’s incredibly fast. Best of all this also includes an SD card adapter so you can plug it into your laptop to transfer your stuff to a computer.

In terms of fitting it was incredibly easy, just carefully lift off the card cover on the top right side of the tablet and slot in the card. Took me all of two minutes.

How much storage do I need?
======================
It depends, but even a 32Gb SD card will fit enough SD video to watch for over 65 standard definition movies or 94 hours straight. To test this, I downloaded an SD copy of “Shaun the Sheep” to an Amazon Fire tablet, and it used 497 MB. This means:-

32Gb = 11,400 JPG photos or 65 SD or 32 HD movies or 8,000 MP3 songs
64Gb = 22,800 photos or 130 SD or 64 HD movies or 16,000 songs
128Gb = 45,600 photos or 260 SD or 130 HD movies or 32,000 songs

What will it store?
=============
Anything including Video, MP3 music, Photos, Apps, word documents.

What will it work with?
================
Anything. I tried it with a Cannon EOS 700D SLR, a GoPro HERO, an Amazon Fire 7” tablet and my Fire TV. Plug in an SD card adapter, and it even works with your laptop.

What does “Speed Class” mean?

Works perfectly in my Dad's new Fire tablet. Now he has enough memory to store his media. Anyone who buys the $49 Fire tablet will need extra memory, and this SD card is a perfect match. All you need to do is insert the SD card into the slot on the tablet instantly recognizes it, there is no formatting needed.

The slot for the MicroSD card is on the upper right side of the device; covered by a sliding shield you push aside gently with a fingernail. It's similar to the shield covering many cellphone power outlets. Actual insertion should be gently done (never force card) by placing the metallic stripes on the card inside, face down and completing with a small push.

There is a manual on the Fire: Go to Settings, find Help, Search for "Insert and Manage MicroSD card" The manual has detailed illustrations and instructions on installation and use of the MicroSD card.

The available memory is slightly less than the advertised memory; that's usually the case with memory cards for various reasons.

One thing I was disappointed (well, two, if I count the lack of a tiny plastic case for the MicroSD card when it's not in the Kindle. This used to be almost standard) discovering I couldn't directly download my Kindle books or my Audible audio books directly to the card. For me, with the Fire's limited data storage and my 30Gb plus audiobook collection, this is a big drawback.

The whole point of the MicroSD card was to enable me to store most of my audio books (or a great many) on the device for when Internet access was unavailable - which is often given my occupation and travel. I suspect though, I will be able to transfer via usb cable.
