The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. While there are other characters in the storyline the main characters are Lucas, Heather, and the Dories (Astrid and Dander). There is plenty of action as well as twists and turns in the storyline throughout the books. Even quite a few surprises along the way. I enjoyed this series and am glad I took the time to read the books.
I had previously read the individual books, but was given a copy of the box set and chose to leave a review for it as well.
We begin with the beautifully open hearted Heather Moore, who is unknowingly pulled into a huge investigation and conspiracy, due to being the sister of Margarette who's Coven had been assisting so called "Rogue Witch's" who had not fallen under the control and registration of the Magnuson Corp's, so we're therefore under their investigations, which could do nothing other than destroy anyone, who had come into contact with them.
Heather who had finally found what she believed she wanted from life, by helping other's, also had some of her own powers, that she chose not to use, unless under extreme conditions, so except for a man in her life, she was happy. Wouldn't you know it she meets a hunk of a man ( who unknown to Heather is an Immortal Warlock, a Magnuson Corp's) who found they had a wonderfully sizzling attraction, and both knew that if allowed could really go somewhere. But as in many of Hazel Hunter's book's nothing is really as it seems.
Just to keep us guessing another party is also very interested in this small Coven at Sanctuary Cove, and they are non other than than the Knight Templar's, led by a crazy over the top person who believes beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they have the right and the power to do whatever is needed to achieve their end result, no matter who gets in the way. The whole series is based around the involvement of these groups of highly trained Assassin's and the choices made by the Coven, while the witch's and warlocks, all with their own personal powers try to achieve some form of normality in their lives.
Now on the sidelines are an intriguing couple who indirectly, are central to the complex scenario's that continually develop throughout the book's. The Dubai's appear to be enthralled with Heather and Lucas, the man who she had fallen deeply for, this Warlock is just as deeply involved with Heather, and throughout the storyline we continually get glimpses of the Dubai's ongoing infatuation with them as well as how totally different they are to the other Coven member's. Even though every character is extremely important, the Dubai's play a direct piece in this intreaging scenario, by finally pulling all the pieces together, to present an enthralling and enticing book that is really hard to put down, BUT, where everyone ends up, is totally unexpected. If you enjoy book's that are colourful descriptive while having a complex storyline, then you are going to love Hazel Hunter's Sanctuary Coven, and I suggest you grab it today and start reading.
After reading as many Hazel Hunter books as I have read, I am always amazed at her diversity each time she starts a new series, She usually weaves story lines using witches, and warlocks, and templars. But everything else is new and different. New scenarios, new conflicts, new characters. As usual, she has me hooked within two chapters. And as always, every book of a series leaves me frustrated (except the final book). I was deeply engrossed and thoroughly enjoying my read when BAAM, I turn the page to see the words Book 2 “WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON”! Fortunately I haven’t read ALL of her works yet, so I will just have to read other works of hers until book 2 arrives. At least that is some consolation. Because I have never met one of her books that I didn’t like. I can’t wait for book 2! HAZEL, YOU ROCK!
Hazel, what an amazing and complex story line. And twice you pull us away from the main story line to observe the Denver Templars, who, with their vicious Templar master, are desperately trying to find the Coven. With only two glimpses of their leader I already find him despicable.. You are so inventive, in the main story, with Familiars who are not really what they seem, and Wiccans who are not what they seem, and shape shifting added to the plot. Heather finally learns why she felt like an outsider when she lived among them as a child. You learn why Sander and Astrid sought out this coven. Some concepts are so different from anything I have ever read before in the world of Wiccans that I read portions twice so I could understand and keep it all straight. Confusing? NO Complex? YES. I was up until 2:00AM because once I started it, I couldn’t put it down.
Nothing like starting a new book with the two main characters just moments from death! Obviously they get out of their predicament or the story would be over. How complex are these relationships! 2 shifters, a Magus Corp officer and an uninitiated witch becoming intimate friends. And the shifters have a peculiarity of their own, a secret from their past. Sometimes I get lost in my own questions though, like "If the coven is hidden how did the hikers get onto the property?" and "why didn't Naomi make sure she wasn't being followed when she returned home the next day?" and "wouldn't it have been better to preserve the secrecy of the coven's location to move the dead hikers away from their property?" But then, if these things were so, we wouldn't have the next drama coming with the Templars more than likely finding the coven with the information revealed in this book. Hazel does an excellent job of painting a despicable picture of the Templars. So much so that I really hope none of them survive the inevitable confrontation approaching in the next episode. Hazel does a wonderful job of keeping things fresh by creating characters unlike those in the previous series, and leaving you hungering for more when you reach the end.
WOW! Hazel sure knows how to develop characters so you really LOVE the good ones, and really, REALLY hate the bad ones! Templar Master Aldric is so despicable, so devious, and so dangerous. Aldric cares about no one or nothing beyond her/his own agenda, and will kill and maim to achieve it. He overshadows the delightful parts such as the union of Heather with Lucas, Astrid, and Sander, bringing about her immortality. The hidden Coven, left off the grid and bothering no one, is the target of both the Templars and the Magus Corps. All because Sander and Astrid killed in order to escape 1000 years of torture and enslavement. Heather leaves us with almost all the Coven becoming prisoners of Aldric, Magus Corp on the way, and the fabulous 4 (Heather, Lucas, Astrid, and Sander) having yet to complete the blood ceremony which will allow them to share powers. What a cliffhanger.
Wow, what a great ending. I was so absorbed in this concluding book I read it non-stop to the end. The evil Templar Master comes so close to getting what he wants, but is exposed just in time. Ironically, he persecutes Wiccans but doesn't object to using their spells when it benefits him. Fortunately, between the goddess herself coming to expose the Templar Master and Heather's ingenious way of preventing the spell from being executed properly, we have a happy ending. And once exposed for all his evil ways, the other Templars are no longer willing to do his bidding. As always, Hazel has written a great series. It seems each new series raises the bar with her writings.
