I do a lot of furniture finishing and depending on the finish I'm using, I can sand the finish to 1000+ and then buff with 3M Perfect It pads and buffing compound. This paper also works equally was well on metal. I just repaired some hair pin legs that came with damaged finish. Easier to fix than return - worked out fine.
This paper works well for sanding between coats of polyurethane, especially water based poly that inevitably raises the grain of most wood. I've also used this sand paper on metal where finer grinds are required and it works great. I can make the paper fit most of my hand block sanders or just use it bare handed.
I'll also use the higher grits for a final finish on lacquer that does not require sanding between coats. It all depends on the final look I want which is typically satin. The attached photo shows a granadillo live edge slab that I applied 5 coats of water based poly to and sanded between coats with this sandpaper. I then buffed the finish. It's not as shiny as it looks in real light as opposed to my shop multiple 6000 Kelvin LED lights.
This is well priced, good quality wet or dry sandpaper. Hope that helps!
