I did not understand that this bag, although sandpiper, is not made in America and has significantly less quality materials than their more expensive USA-made couterparts. When I received this bag it had un-clipped stitching covering it everywhere. It looked like a China-town version or something. I was not very happy. The material doesn't feel as solid as I would have expected reading about SandPiper. So I decided to email them and tell them about my dissatisfaction. They told me that the bag was authentic but probably was neglected going through their "final touches" manufacturing process. The bag isn't bad, it's just not exactly what I expected. I wanted 1050 denier Nylon with YKK zippers. Instead I got 600 Denier with Chinese generic zippers. I will say that the internal material such as the dividers and sectional materials are pretty high quality. In the end I'm not entirely unhappy. The bag will suit my day hikes well I'm sure. I just hate not getting what I think I'm buying. I would have gladly paid the extra Hundo to get the American version.
I'm replacing an old smaller bag and I took this new bag on my last deployment. First, THIS BAG IS HUGE. I'm not a big guy, but first day leadership started with the comments on how big it was. If I put a little effort into packing more efficiently, I could have tossed away my issued travel bags and loaded everything into this one bag. Returning home I wouldn't have to wait for them to unload the pallets. However, this bag is awesome! I'm going to use it on my upcoming TDY.

I currently work in an active combat zone (Afghanistan), and when its time to take a little R&R I needed something that was a little bigger than what I had, a BP that is durable, look nice, various compartment pockets, for extra stuff and travel friendly. A few years back I purchased a Bug Out back pack from SOC, this time I wanted to see what the other sites had to offer....I honestly looked at other makes and brands from these sites, none of them seem to have what I was looking for, needles to say I went back to SOC and found just what I want it. Its a little bigger than the Bug Out BP, has all the bells & whistles insofar as accessory pockets & compartments, in the environment in which I work, this back pack is design to give you the satisfaction you're looking for in bp. So take it from this ole retired US Marine, the Master Guns says ....don't waste valuable time looking around, grab this BP, you'll be glad you did ...Bet on it.
Excellent bag! I had room for a week's clothes, my photo gear, personal items and I fit my second camera bag in there too! The bag fit well on my shoulders and it didn't feel like I had a ton of stuff in it while I carried it. And it fit in the carry on compartment of the plane! I love this bag and Sandpiper of California! I'll take their bags over other bags for my daily use and extended travel any day!
One of my all-time favorite bags ever. It's insane how this bag can go from a somewhat long yet conventional size to being able to fit something like 2/3 of a extra large military duffle bag, but with all the support. After a year or so there was some fraying of the stitching of the arm strap, but thats to be expected being I regularly carried 45+ lbs with it. Would totally purchase again, if the price was right
Well i bought this bag for traveling but mainly for my deployment and in all honesty this bag is almost perfect. As far as size its HUGE and has great compartments everywhere. The extended compartment makes this beast even bigger for more storage, awesome right? So with this being so big and so many compartments what could be the problem? well although it is a great bag i have only owned it for about 3months and didnt really start testing it out until i left on my deployment a couple months ago. Although ive only had it for 3months its already taken a beating just from carrying it, pulling the straps and tightening it down also it being somewhat thrown around on a few occasions. Ive already started to see tears in pockets and one of my compression straps have already ripped completely off. That was a BIG disappointment, for anyone who packs tight knows how much of a let down this could be. Overall i am still happy with it and hope the next products made by them will be a bit more durable
