This formed the basis of a workbench for me. It's a good item and solidly made. Standard Edsal rack despite the branding as S&L. However, the particle board it ships with is pretty low quality. You will probably want to replace with plywood or MDF, neither of which is particularly expensive and are readily available precut in this size.

We purchased this to use as a 72" tall unit and because we could set the shelves at the height that we wanted. However the 72" height arrives as 2 36" pieces for each corner and in order to put it together one shelf must be at the 36" height because of the way it has to be put together and it is not even remotely secure - you are supposed to butt the 2 36" pieces together and that is very unstable! Unless you want to make this into 2 36" tall pieces don't get it. The particle board was also damaged on the corners and I have my doubts about it actually even being able to support more than 100 pounds per shelf - not even close to the 800 pounds that they claim each shelf will hold. There are other units that actually tell you that it can be used as 2 36" tall shelves but this one did not which is another reason we chose this one since we wanted solid 72" tall pieces for the corners. What a joke! On top of that the product that was sent was by edsal not sandusky (they look the same but are they really???)

However, and no offense to Amazon, the next time I need shelving like this I am going to get it from one of the big box stores. Shipping something this large is not a good idea. Mine came with the box intact but damage inside. The shelves are particle board (I knew this when I ordered) and the edges got a little frayed. The worst thing though was the clip attachments got bent during shipping. I had to do a lot of straightening with a crowbar. They were only bent on one end, makes me think the box was dropped at some point on its trip to my house.

All that being said, it is a great set of shelves once I got it put together, and I am not opposed to having another from this brand. That's why I made the repairs and kept them rather than returning. But ordering online and having it shipped? No, I will get it at a store and drive it home myself.

HEAVY! But its sturdy. Easy enough to put together. When we first put the bottom board down, it easily held a 160lb man, so we're confident in its sturdiness. It looks pretty good and clean. The metal bars that go across and hold the shelves have metal bracket like things on them and all but one were just fine. One of them was bent and difficult to fix. We will have to request to have that part fixed, so hopefully their customer service is nice...

if you buy this, don't forget the connectors. If you need only 1/2 a shelving unit this size, then you wont need them. I thought the rails from top top bottom were 1 piece but no you need a connector that you have to pay for

Only difficulty came when assembling single-handed. The 3' level is easy but additional hands necessary for upper portion assembly. Note that the packages weigh approximately 70 lbs and are awkward to move alone. The finished product is excellent, as I expected.

Not very sturdy at all. We had to use 2x4s in order to get the shelves to stop bowing in. If you're wanting to use this for heavy duty stuff, I would look elsewhere, maybe one with steel shelves would work better, but If you're just using it to store empty boxes and light materials, it should work ok.

not as study as some of the others but price is right. shelves tend to have corners broken off in shipping but mine is in garage so work fine. 1/2 plywood could be used to replace them if necessary. i bought another to use as a work bench on the other side of my garage
