I am very particular about my pens. As far as "cheap" pens go, I was (and still am) a huge TUL fan, but I borrowed a few of the Signo pens from my roommate and was pleasantly surprised. It has comparable if not better quality for a good price. I actually smile whenever I first start writing. It is that satisfying. I actually can't say I have a preference between these and my Montblanc rollerballs. Just about everyone who borrows it to jot down a note can't help but say, "This is a REALLY nice pen!"
One of the first tests I do with a pen is write quickly and see if the ink skips out on any areas. The Signos perform flawlessly. The next test is to see if it oozes too much ink or smears. I write in a very small and fine hand, so this is a common problem for me. Again, the micro point Signos do not disappoint. I never go anywhere without one clipped to my collar or pocket.
Some reviews said this was the wrong pen, and I think the pictures are causing confusion. I just wanted to confirm that I have ordered pens directly from this Amazon page and got the correct item. You are getting the 207 micro point (0.5mm), with gold lettering, and a solid silver barrel at the tip. The first picture of the product box is correct, the second image that has just a single pen is not correct. ---UPDATE #2: Current product photos are correct now.
As for how long the ink lasts, I've honestly never noticed because by the time they do run out, I've forgotten when I first bought them. If I had to make an estimate, I'd say at least 4 months with moderate/heavy usage as a full-time student. Obviously user experience will vary, but I've used these pens for a long time now, and I'd say that's average. If yours ran out much sooner, I'd say you either got a dud, or are a very heavy user.
Let me start by commenting on the ink. Uni-ball calls the ink "super ink." It is offered in a number of their pens. It claims to help prevent fraud. Well they are not kidding. I am a chemist and am required to use a "permanent" ink. I know from experience that if you spill methanol or chloroform on 90% of ink it will dissolve before you have a chance to grab a paper towel to attempt blotting. Not "super ink." I have tried. The ink will stand up to any solvent I have tried, Chloroform, Methanol, Ethanol, Acetone, THF, you get the idea. For normal use this may be a nice thing to know but not necessary. For someone working with things like this it is awesome. Let me add that the black ink works much better. The blue ink isn't as permanent.
The pen writes great. It almost always flows perfectly. I have had several that have stopped working about 2/3 of the way though the ink stick(?). However I have had many, more write until the last drop of ink. They are available (as you already know) in the 0.7mm and 0.5mm line. I prefer the 0.5mm but the 0.7mm is just fine. Nice and dark, no problem seeing, copying or scanning.
I like the feel of the pens. They are comfortable. If you want more comfort they offer a gel one (the premier), I have never tried. Any way they are retractable. Which I think is absolutely necessary. I loose caps within minutes. I have never had the retracting mechanism break on one. I have had them kind of wear out but not break completely.
Well I highly recommend these pens for any one not just chemists.
Pilot Precise V5 Stick Rolling Ball Pen, Micro Point, 0.5 mm, Black Barrel/Ink (35334), 12-Count
Pentel EnerGel Liquid Gel Pen, Fine Needle Tip, Blue Barrel, Black Ink, Box of 12 (BLN15-A)
Pilot G2 Retractable Gel Ink Roller Ball Pen, Extra Fine Point, Clear Barrel, Black Ink, 12-Count (31002)
uni-ball 207 Retractable Micro Point Gel Pens, 12 Black Ink Pens(61255)
Sharpie Pen Fine Point Pen, 12 Black Pens (1742663)
The overall favorites were definitely the V5 and the EnerGel. The EnerGel was generally preferred by those who liked a higher ink flowrate, while the V5 was preferred by those who liked a lower flowrate. The Sharpie pen, while better than expected, feels like a marker (because it is) and doesn't have wide appeal. The Pilot G2 was scratchy and terrible all-around; this appears to be a problem with the 0.5mm tip size, as I have heard great things about the G2 0.7mm.Read more ›

I really like these pens! I love the shade of blue used for the ink. Definitely like the ink flow too. My only issue is that they finish very quick! Read morePublished 17 hours ago by giveuptheghost
