Instead of just tiny mini-games like in Rudolph, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town is a full-fledged platforming game. Granted, it's definitely low budget through and through, which explains the low price. Regardless, this game's well worth the low price if you want to get in the Christmas mood.
The graphics are competent and well done in the same vein as the movie. The gameplay is all about jumping and collecting, like a Mario or something. While it's not on the same quality level as a Mario, which is to be expected, it's still fun enough to play. Jump around the environments, collecting snowflakes and delivering Christmas toys to boys and girls.
It's basic yet good solid fun. At the end of the day, isn't that what gaming is all about? It's not going to win any awards. It's a cheap Christmas game. However, it could definitely be a lot worse. For the cheap price, I have no problem recommending this game for some good ol' Christmas fun.
Call of Duty it is not, but for families and kids everywhere, a home run!
This is 25 levels of very simple platforming to warm them up for Mario! It's mostly collecting snowflakes, jumping on platforms, throwing toys to children, and finding the hidden stocking in each level. This offers the opportunity for children to recognize alternate platform paths before moving ahead to the end of a level. The basics of the game are played in classic controller style with the d-pad and 1 and 2 buttons.
To bring continued interest to the levels, some involve shaking the wiimote as instructed on the screen to build toys, fill stockings, or wipe frost away from windows. Plus, there ARE "enemes" -- the burger meister meister burger's soldiers. You have to sneak past them or jump over platforms to get away from them. If they grab you, you simply have to shake the wiimote to get away and stun them.
And then there are times when the winter warlock gives you power ups like higher jumps and faster running in order to get hard-to-grab snowflakes and stockings. Personally, a favorite level of my nephews is set to "Put One Foot in Front of the Other." It's also a challenging one because you can't go back if you miss a snowflake--you have to continue putting one foot in front of the other!
Finally, while most of the game is played as young Kris Kringle, you also have a level in which you play Jessica (aka: Mrs. Claus!) and for two player option, the second player takes on the role of honk honk the penguin! Just like the tv special, this is a fast, simple game you will want to pull out every Christmas just to get into the festive mood!
