Santa’s Naughty Helper’s about two lawyers, Kevin and Eric, which work together at a large law firm. Kevin and Eric are complete opposites. Kevin’s an introvert which makes him a great researcher but not the best litigator. He’s been in court often over the years, but he wasn’t the lead attorney. He also doesn’t care for the spotlight, the television interviews, or the notoriety that comes with the some of the high profile cases. Where Kevin’s shy, Eric’s friendly, and while Kevin disliked having to stand up and speak in court, Eric thrived on it. Eric’s an extrovert which makes him a great litigator, but he has too much energy to be the best researcher. They work well together because their expertise and skills sets mesh well and this makes Eric and Kevin, the firm’s best litigation team. Kevin gets to do the background work and research, and Eric gets to be the lead lawyer and all that that in tales.
However, in addition to being a great team, they are also close friends. They hang out at each other’s places and watch movies and eat pizza and also work out at the gym together. They know each other’s likes and dislikes and Kevin has been in love with Eric for quite some time but he doesn’t want to jeopardize their friendship or their working relationship either, so he hasn’t said anything to Eric.
Each year the law firm does a secret gift exchange as their way of getting the firm’s employees to get to know one another on a personal level. Moreover, this year Kevin draws Eric. He sees this as his opportunity to finally tell Eric how he feels about him without having to do it directly and possibly face rejection. So he comes up with doing a gift every day for 12 days just like the holiday song. Moreover, each day’s gift will be more suggestive, with the big reveal on the 12th day.
I loved seeing how Eric reacted to each day’s gift. You could tell that Kevin really knows Eric well. I loved the end of the book, and I would love to see more of Eric and Kevin and their relationship.
I recommend this book for anybody looking for a cute relaxing read.

Even though Christmas is still about six months away, sometimes it can be really nice to read a holiday story in the middle of the year and this one fit the bill quite nicely! You’re basically getting what it says in the blurb but this was more fun than expecting and I found myself looking forward to the Secret Santa gifts almost as much as Erik! Kevin and Erik have been friends for years and while you know of Kevin’s feelings right at the beginning, it was nice seeing Erik come to the realization that he wanted more from his shyer counterpart.
Though most of the story takes place within the office that both main characters at, the holiday spirit came through in a nice variety of ways, not just through the giving of gifts. There were also enough work related items thrown in to show what Kevin and Erik did for a living without it overtaking the general holiday theme/spirit and I personally liked the little breaks from the gift giving to see a little every day realism introduced to the story.
While most of the story was on the sweet side, those looking for a little something more on the spicy side shouldn’t be disappointed; much like how the gifts move past the straight romance stage, the character interactions move out of the office and into the bedroom at the end. I did feel the jumping into bed was a little fast after the pacing of the rest of the story but I felt the big reveal and official move from friends to lovers was well done and I liked it enough that I didn’t mind the quicker move to a more intimate relationship in the end.
Overall I found this to be a sweet, interesting read that gave just the right amount of Christmas spirit to keep me going until the actual holiday. If you enjoy a little spicy with your sweet or are just looking for a little Christmas in July, I’d recommend giving this one a look.
Kevin Anderson is a lawyer, but he's shy and quiet in his regular life. He has a thing for his best friend and fellow lawyer, Erik, but he's too afraid to tell him and possibly risk their friendship. Luckily, fate throws him a bone, in the form of the Secret Santa gift exchange at his office. He randomly picks Erik's name, and he decides to use the gifts to show his interest, secretly, over 12 days, and then possibly reveal himself on Christmas Eve. Assuming all goes well.
Erik Wilson is a great lawyer, and he and Kevin make a great team, since they have different strengths. Erik is handsome and outgoing, but he hasn't had a date in quite a while. So, when he starts getting the gifts from his secret admirer, he's intrigued. He doesn't try too hard to figure out who the person is, since he's enjoying the game so much. Every day he shares his gifts, and some laughs over them, with Kevin, and the more time they spend together the more Erik realizes he likes Kevin more than he realized.
Kevin and Erik are already good friends, so the time they spend together is comfortable, and fun. They definitely have chemistry, but at first it's subtle, and it gets to be more as time goes on. I liked their banter, and their great working relationship. But, this was a very short story, and only 1 of them was in the know until almost the very end, so I guess I wish there had been a little more time with them really being together.
I love holiday novellas, and this was a fun one, but it just wasn't all I wanted it to be. If you like short and sweet holiday stories, with a hint of spice, then you should enjoy this one!
