My boyfriend and I shared this book together. He became quite hot, kept saying 'oh god' and 'that is so so hot', 'I love that, no I love that one more, oh look at her face...' This book is exquisite, divine, intimate, true. It captures the raw sexuality of women comfortable with their bodies and the various acts of masturbation. Photos of the two women wearing party masks were particularly striking, sweet and sexy. I wish there were more Will books on Amazon.com as we would love more. If you love the human body, female sexuality, that look women get when sexually turned on, buy this book and share it.

This is Santillo's second major publication of erotic photography (Flagrante Delicto was his first) and his first collaboration with publisher TASCHEN. Like the masterpiece of sexual photography that Flagrante Delicto was, this new venture, La Petite Mort possesses the same breathtaking style and daring compositions that are uniquely "Santillo". Each image is a sepia-toned dreamscape where the viewer is allow access to someone else's most personal moments - fantasizing and masturbating to climax.

In La Petite Mort we are escorted into the world of female masturbation. Each female subject allowed Santillo to photograph them during moments of climatic self-pleasure using their standard device, be it their own hands or a phallic toy of some sort. His subjects range from young to old; slender to not-so-slender. Seen through the lens of Will Santillo, each is a beautiful, captivating muse, mesmerizing us with their unleashed, unrepentant sexuality. La Petite Mort is an amazing vision of female sexuality not to be missed!

The photography of Will Santillo and the interviews Dian Hanson conducted with 37 of the women photographed in this book make this ground breaking book an instant collectors' item. Santillo not only goes where most first class photographers fear to tread, but in his decision to capture the peak of exhilaration of self gratification in women he has created some of the most sensitive and alluring photographs. The title LA PETITE MORT means "the little death," a euphemism for orgasm, but 'the women who exuberantly masturbate for Toronto photographer Will Santillo in this book are as lively a bunch as you'll ever meet. Santillo conceived the project eight years ago to include a thorough cross section of women: young to old, slim to thick, perfect beauties to those not considered beautiful until seen through his lens. The one constant would be that each would decide and direct how she masturbated to climax while he captured the moment. From previous projects with amateur subjects Santillo had come to believe that masturbation is a far more personal act than most sex play because it is conducted almost exclusively in private. He set out to reveal the diversity and creativity with which women approach self-stimulation, and to portray the beauty of ordinary women in the throes of orgasm--a beauty far richer than the male oriented depictions seen in pornography. Santillo says he seeks to uncover the hidden face of his subjects, and indeed, it's the faces that best show the intensity of response in these artfully explicit photos.'

The moody photographs are sepia-toned, a factor which makes them less hard edged than the usual black and white format.
