... at least until a "Lightning" or "Toxic" 290 comes out, this card is the best of the R9 290s (and I have quite a few). Here's why:

The Good:
Factory overclock of 1000MHz/1300MHz core/memory versus reference 947MHz/1250MHz
Overclockability: my two samples yielded 1225/1675 and 1100/1600 at 1.35V. I run them stock for now as 2x 290s is plenty for my resolution (1200p).
Seemingly sturdy and beefy cooler - overhangs the side of the card by a little bit to accommodate the third fan. VRMs stay cool!
Quiet - under gaming loads even in crossfire the setup stays quiet.
Packaging is nice, and protected the card well despite a certain parcel service's propensity to dropkick the box down flights of stairs. Foam "coffin" does its job.
VRMs stayed under 80C even under extreme load (scrypt mining) as shown by GPU-Z.
Hynix RAM on both my cards. Hynix being preferred vs Elpida for overclocking, most of the time.
Crossfire Sapphire Tri-X 290s with VSync on and I am at a constant 60 FPS, everything maxed out in every game I play. Quite pleased.

The Bad:
12 inches long! Be sure your case can fit the beast (or two of them)!
Does not unlock to 290X, not unlockable per Hawaiiinfo12.

The Ugly:
Still a reference (stock) 290 PCB. At extreme overclocks this limits the power delivery and consequently the overclock. But we're talking about 0.01% of users so I'm just nitpicking.

Conclusion:
This card is a beast. However, I wouldn't pay much more than MSRP ($449) for one of these as it is essentially a reference 290 under the hood (identical PCB and layout). Though I should note that this is desirable for water cooling.

Other thoughts:
I also have 2x MSI Gaming 290s.

I can max out Blacklight: Retribution on 2560x1440 at 80 - 120 fps depending on the map and if its a firefight. When fraps is recording, fps drops to 40 - 57.

The noise isn't that bad, fan speed at 50% is audible, but bearable. Triple fans does its job well

EDIT 6/17/2014
Titanfall at 2560x1440 with Anti-Aliasing 8x EQAA, textures quality at insane, Anisotropic 16x, and everything else at on highest settings runs at 60 fps. It occasionally dips to 45 fps but not often.

Titanfall running at 3840 x 2160, with the same settings as above, runs at 35 - 55 fps. At this resolution, I needed to manually set the fan speed at 50% or higher to keep the temperature down. The highest temperature I've seen it get to when running Titanfall was 75 C. However, that was in my mini-ITX Cooler Master 120 Advanced case.

If Anti-Aliasing is off, framerate managed to stay above 40 fps for both resolutions.

*I have recently discovered that the 4k displayport flickering seems to be a common issue with either the R9 290 and/or the drivers. I have not found any solution so far. I have tried Drivers 14.4 and Beta 14.6 and still get these problems. The quick fix that I found, that DOESN'T actually fix the problem, but reduces the frequency of the blackout flickering was to downgrade to Catalyst V13.12c which I found at Sapphire's website.

The HDMI port at 4k works fine, but laggy due to 30hz. Using the displayport at 2560x1440 runs perfectly too.

The problems I have encountered are constant and random blackscreens. Random flickering, Inverted colors, and visual artifacts that look like a grain effect.

I know it is not the monitor or the displayport cables since I have tried 4k on Catalyst Driver 14.

Pros:

- Quiet. I can't hear this card at all over my case fans while gaming. That's how quiet it is.
- This is silicon lottery, but mine OC's to 1100/1400 on STOCK voltages. All I raised was the power limit to 50% in MSI Afterburner.
- Great temps. The reference r9 290's scared many away because of the 95C temps, but this aftermarket card is WAY WAY better. I just finished playing some Watch Dogs on a hot 85F day ( no AC ), and the card was at 75C.
- Price. This card is nearly half the price of a 780TI yet performs 10-15% below it stock. That's enough reason to get this card.

Cons:

- For those with small cases, size would be the only con IMO. I'm using a 750D so the extra length doesn't affect me, but if you have a smaller case make sure it fits ( the HSF sticks out about an inch from the PCB )

This card is a serious upgrade from the GTX-650 I bought a few years ago. Ran the Windows Experience test that is graphed @ 1.0 to 7.9 being flawless and ultra efficient. None of my components scored a 7.9. My SSD drive did 7.8. My processor did 7.7. My memory 7.8. My old card, 7.4. This card was a flawless 7.9 in all relative parameters. It can literally play any game on the market and for being an 18 month old release, it was future ready to still be at the top of the hill with the Big Dogs. I just saw the price has dropped even more. get this card at the his phenomenal price.

Great video card. Got this for my new gaming computer and it has not disapointed. With the right hardware to accompany this card, your computer will be able to run any game out there. This has played any game i've thrown at it on Ultra without any lag at all (Tomb Raider, Skyrim, Crysis 3, and LA Noire). Has three fans built in to keep the card cool through even the highest level usage. I don't have a monitor with display port or 4k but it runs HDMI well and the image is crisp on my BenQ RL2455HM. It is a BIG card. I have a full size ATX case and it fit but with only a little over 2 inches to spare, so keep that in mind with shopping for cases.

Pros:
Can play anything at the highest settings
Stays cool with built in fans
Looks cool if you have a clear side on your computer

Cons:
BIG, really BIG (check your case size)
Loud, not unbearable but you can hear it
