I took a leap of faith in purchasing the Saramonic Dual Wireless VHF Lavalier Microphone, and I'm sure happy I did. Sound quality is great, although I did have to play with the sound output (volume) to limit the amount of background/airy sounding noise collected. I also found changing the default frequency ("A") to "C" worked well for me. Obviously, this setting will differ based on the amount of interface (if any) in your area.
I'm using the mics with my GH4. If you have a similar setup, be sure to lower the GH4 internal Mic Levels to -12dB. Then you can increase the gain/volume on the Saramonic to your liking; however, be sure to watch the mic levels on GH4 to ensure there is no clipping (red blocks).
I've tested a setup with just one mic (unit set to M) = stereo output, 2 mics (unit set to M) = both channels combined as stereo output, and 2 mics (unit set to S) = each mic output is recorded on a separate mono channel (L/R) on a single audio track (note: each mono channel can be isolated and converted to stereo in post). I was pleased with the results of each test.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the purchase and would recommend.
Edit: I added another star for the standard mixer with microphone set which I exchanged the premium mixer set as the recorded sound is excellent. The mixer and mics work well and the sound is clear ( camcorder pre amps were lowered). For an additional $25, I brought a different microphone ( micro dot pro microphone) for the wireless transmitter for more accurate and even better sound. I definitely suggest getting this set for champagne audio quality on a beer budget.
These things happen. I'm OK with that. I won't blast a product for a single failure that's addressed and resolved.
It came with a 1 year warranty, and I also purchased the extra warranty.
My unit is only 4 months old - so the extended warranty doesn't kick in yet, and they asked me to reach out to the manufacturer.
So I did. Guess who doesn't cover products that they make unless *THEY* sold it?
Right. Saramonic. So- if you buy this from anyone that ISN'T Saramonic direct (no idea how you could even prove or verify that info) you will NOT have warranty coverage.
Kudos to Amazon for processing a full refund to me for this order- after calling Saramonic support on a 3-way call with me, and Jason at Saramonic support (email@example.com) refused AGAIN to cover their device. Amazon said they would report this back about the lack of warranty support as advertised. In the meantime, I suggest looking for something else- or be ready to fight if you run into a problem.
There are lots of 4 and 5-star reviews. I'd say when this works, it's pretty amazing for the money spent. If it were replaced for me with no additional issues, I'd give it a 4 or 5-star review myself. But the hoops I'm jumping through at this point warrant the 1-star review. Buyer beware.
