Wow, I am so irritated at this book! This is the first, and last, book I'll be reading by this author.
Sasha and Josh are both self-centered and immature, and she's very hypocritical. She leaves Josh for 2 years because long before she ever met him, he got black out drunk with her sister and spent the night with her (though neither remembers if they actually had sex), but Sasha slept with someone else while seeing Josh.
Sasha notices Josh is taking a lot of pills, but never asks him about it. She notices once that he looks kinda sickly, but never asks him about it. Josh claims to love her sooo much, and promises her he will never hurt her, and is actually planning a future with her, all while knowing he has leukemia and only weeks to live, which he never tells her because he knows it will hurt her. He knows she has moved on and is happy, and he fights to get her back while knowing he's dying, but claims he loves her and will never hurt or betray her again. Jerk!
And really, he looks healthy and fit and hot until the day he dies? She has no idea there's anything wrong with him until she comes home from work and finds him dead in their bed, even though they live together? Really?
Another unrealistic aspect of the book for me: I didn't see anything about Sasha that made me believe that 3 super hot, intelligent, talented and successful men, who have more notches on their bed posts than they can count, would see her and suddenly want to give up their single statuses for a relationship with her, promising her that if things don't work out with Josh, they'll always be waiting for her. Blah!
I'm thinking the next book is all about Sasha grieving Josh and trying to get over his betrayal, then the third book is her actually getting a HEA? If so, then really, this book and book 2 could have been summarized in the background of book 3, making books 1 and 2 superfluous and unnecessary.
A. She kept running. B She left for over 2 years over something he had done way before they met ( and it wasn't even sex. C she had sex with someone else while she was dating him. D she gets mad at him when he dies and yet she waisted 2 years that they could have had together.
I read the first line – this is not an HEA! - and knew that I would need to remind myself of this throughout the book. Therefore, I felt somewhat prepared for the outcome. I love love love reading book from authors in other countries – the slang and wording always grabs my attention and T.L. Smith was able to do that.
Sasha doesn’t love – she saw her mother wanting to be loved by too many men that she was turned off. I honestly did not like Sasha throughout most of this book – I felt she was a whiny, selfish girl. Did my perspective change during the book? No. I did, however, respect her and some of her choices.
Sasha’s dilemma is that too many men want her attention. Not a bad problem to have, right? Dylan is an absolute sweet, good-hearted man – he is the safe guy. Brax is a musician, totally hot. I hope to hear more about him in the future. Josh – he is a tattoo artist. Yeah, he’s a hottie too. Which one does she choose? You’ll need to read to find out!
Parts of this book ran together for me and I caught myself needing to reread the paragraphs. It would skip to another “subject” without leading me into it. I would have loved for T.L. Smith to slow the pace down on some of the storylines so that they could have been told in more depth and completion. Another part was completely unrealistic, and threw me so far down into a loop I wasn’t sure what just happened. I couldn’t let this go and had a difficult time focusing on the remainder of the book.
Rating this book on the storyline alone – 3.5 Stars.
The book is told in Sasha's POV and sometimes you want to shake her, and other times you want to give her a big arse hug, and dry her tears... She's had a rough upbringing and she doesn't believe in HEA or Love. The only person Sasha ever trusted and loved was her sister Lola, but even the love of a sister can be tested.
And Love does sneak up on her non the less, and this story is about her learning to accept and deal with the consequences of that love. Sasha meets 3 hot blokes who somehow worm their way into her heart.
Theres: Dylan, the doctor, had his head screwed on tight, Sweet, Charming and Sexy as sin.
Josh, well, he was a tattooed sex machine playboy. (OH MY...My favourite of them all, I was always #TeamJosh. I have a thing for Tattooed Muscled up men!)
Then there was Brax, the rock star.
I think Sasha was honest with the 3 guys that sneak past her walls, but when she decides which one she will give her heart to, its not plain sailing to a HEA (which is usually the case in most senarios), so If you are wanting a story that is more true to life than a fairy tale romance, you will enjoy this book.
This book was Ms. Smith's Debut Novel and I have read all of her Take Over Series which I love. I read this in one hit, I couldn't put it down, I preferred the second half of the book, the tension and emotion really had me glued to my Kindle.
I look forward to the second part of Sasha's story, and in the meantime I have Adam's Heaven to read... I wonder how many boxes of tissues I will need for that one!
