These speakers are wired. The wire used is a somewhat thicker gauge cable. It's more substantial than most of the very thin "speaker wire" that I've seen included with other inexpensive wired speakers.
A 33" cable runs between the two speakers and a 44", split cable houses a USB cable that connects to a USB port on your computer as well as a 3.5mm stereo plug that plugs into your headphone output port. There is also an in-line volume control on the USB cable.
The speakers will not work with only the 3.5mm cable connected to the headphone output... the USB must also be used as well since it is the USB that provides the power for the speakers.
Power Output: 1.5W x 2
Speaker: 1.5" full range driver
Frequency Response: 90Hz-20KHz
S/N ratio: >= 65dB
What makes this small speaker produce so much bass is a technology called Acoustic Air Spring. The speaker is in a sealed enclosure which includes a passive radiator on the bottom. It's the interaction of the passive radiator with the full-range speaker pushing air that enhances the bass response. This is a technology that I am seeing in an increasing number of small, inexpensive speakers.Read more ›
I spent a good deal of time researching these Satechi Dual Sonic Speaker 2.0 Channel Computer Speakers (Black): These are way cool looking and the sound that they put out is GREAT. I work in a low noise environment and we can't have "blaring speakers" at our desks, and these do the entire range of highs and lows. The cords are long enough to accommodate the speakers on a 32 inch monitor, and the real plus here is that they plug into a USB port.
There is a separate "in-line" volume control, but since I have a volume control on my keyboard, I set it to "medium high" and the sound is clear, crisp and vibrant.
The other plus is the "blue neon-type" light that encircles the base of these speakers, giving them some "pop" and in the dark they look outstanding. (N.B. The "neon type lights are ON all the time, you can't turn them off. Personally, I don't see that as a "negative deal breaker whatsoever")
As you can see, I gave these a "5 star rating" as they were just what I needed, and hope this review helps with some answers to questions about the Santechi Dual Sonic Speakers. I really enjoy them!
They will work on BOTH a powered and non powered standard USB hub, if that's a question that you might have......

The sound performance of the Dual Sonics is about what I expected. They are about twice as loud as the native speakers in my MacBook Pro. They feature a reverberating bass chamber which does help the lower end bass performance, but ultimately like many of the small speakers on the market they will likely not cause any of your windows to shake.
- To me the best feature is there modern stylish looks. I typically do not like speakers or accessories that have some sort of lighting as a design feature, but it really does work for the Dual Sonic.
- I mentioned that the sound performance is solid for this speakers at this price point. I do notice that at above 80% volume (in bass heavy music) a fair amount of distortion. Distortion may not be completely accurate, but it almost sounds like the bass begins to flatten out causing the speaker to sound a bit tinny. Again, this is only at higher volumes and with music that emphasizes bass.
- As you can hear in the video portion of the review - the Dual Sonic are a louder than I expected - especially for a set of 1.5W (per) speakers.
- Must be powered by a USB power source - not an issue unless you were expecting them to be rechargeable.Read more ›

You know what? These are not the best, most acoustically accurate speakers one can find, but they delivered exactly what I needed, in the size I needed, for the price I needed.Published 5 hours ago by Keirmeister

Pretty good little speakers. Definitely better than the monitor speakers! The one drawback is that the base has integrated bright blue lights that stay on all the time. Read morePublished 2 days ago by Bruce G. Buchanan
Treble is a bit high on these and the cord is short. I wish there was a way to turn the lights off when you didn't want them, but overall they have a good sound. Read morePublished 4 days ago by Amazon Addict
