Pros
1. I did receive the 7 Port USB 3.0 Hub with the packaging in great shape and on time.
2. Aesthetically, the HUB is perfectly matched to the finish of my iMac. I appreciate the construction, look, and the feel.
3. It appears solid, sturdy, and durable. Kudos!

Cons
1. A nit. While the blue LED is awesome, it is extremely bright. When my office is dark and I'm working by the dull glow of the monitors, the blue LED shines like a focused flashlight onto the ceiling of my office, brightly illuminating it beyond belief. I've had to resolve to shut my office door now in order not to keep others in the house awake. It seems to me there should be a way to provide the indicator without the intensity. (Note: I have temporarily resolved this particular issue on my own, in a way that doesn't please me much, by placing a small partially transparent sticker over the LED. This attenuated the luminosity of the light enough to not be so blinding.)
2. The HUB's power cord and USB 3.0 cord are on opposite sides. While I can understand that this may have been due to the amount of space needed for each, having them on opposite sized does pose a problem for the placement of the HUB. You can't place anything close to either end, limiting it's placement. I can see the USB cord remaining where it is, but moving the power port to the same side or the rear of the unit would be a better location in my situation. As it is, I have to loop back and secure the feed and power cables in the same direction in order for it to remain neat and tidy. The USB data cables I am able to leave free without issue.
3. Even though the HUB is externally powered, when plugging in my Apple SuperDrive my iMac indicates that the HUB does not have enough power to run it.

I have been using this hub in a stationary location on my desk. The hub itself is very attractive and the form works well. The problem is the power connection -- it isn't very stable. All it takes is a slight touch to the power cord and the power connection is broken. This is usually just a momentary loss but enough to trigger media devices to unmount. This unexpected "ejection" results in an error message on the screen and possible data corruption.

If it were not for the power issue I would give this a full five star review, however, this problem is so fundamental that I wouldn't recommend this to anyone for any purpose.

The hub looks great and 7 ports are finally enough for all my external HDs. Only small negative point is that the power supply input is on one side and the USB output on the other. So there is a cable connected on both sides of the hub...

I had the previous generation Satechi USB hub and loved it. I thought this one would be equally impressive but there were some design choices that left me cold. First, the unit is much bigger than I expected given the size of the previous hub. Making it a bit smaller would have been nice. Secondly I wish the power port had been on the same end as the USB Input. Ok as long as I'm ranting, due to the physical size of this thing they could have easily put the Input ports on the back rather than the sides. I have mine sitting under the iMac and the Input USB and Power cords are a little unsightly. Also, the blue LED indicator is very bright and actually projects a blue dot on the ceiling at night. Blue LEDs seem to be the new fad these days but I think they're too bright. Ranting aside, I can't complain about the the performance. It works equally well with either Windows or OS X. I've had power hungry USB powered HDDs and thumb drives in it and all seem to work happily with no power problems at all. The instructions say that if you have a USB keyboard dongle or mouse dongle there may be interference and it may not work properly. I have my Logitech unifying USB receiver plugged in and it works great. As for speed/performance compared to other hubs I can't tell a difference. I don't have any testing software to run on it to assess it's ability. I have no idea what chipset it's using but I'm sure some other tech savvy user will review it and give all the technical details. I would be willing to bet that it has a new(er) chipset with all the bugs worked out due to it's relatively late entry into the market place. If you can live with the size and cable placement this is an excellent hub. I love the design and would buy this product anytime over competing hubs.

right out of the box it worked fine. after 2 years with OS updates it doesn't power Apple Superdrive, charge devices or connect devices very well. can't say yet about data transfer rates but i used it to sync
iphone & ipad with itunes and everything seemed normal. the 'power on' LED
has become the newest member of my 'LED night time universe star system'. there are blue ones
and yellow ones. you can find your way in the dark by their light. i had to tape over to dim the light.
matches my aluminum imac, g drives, mac dvd superdrive, keyboard, trackpad all very nicely.
i read another review and I don't mind the placement of the cables. now do i think the unit is too large.
oops, on second thought perhaps the power/usb connection cables could be better re-located to the rear.
their specs say that there is a possible interference problem with usb 3 powered hubs and 2.4ghz devices such as
mice, keyboards, trackpads/ trackballs. i called their tech support to ask them and they said that it was possible
but unlikely. and if it works initially no reason to fear interference in the future. well my one 2.4ghz wireless trackball
works fine. no sign of an intereference issue.
i see that they have a 10 port model with 3 ports dedicated for charging only. i read some of the reviews and they seem to have
had some quality control issues. taking that into account i see that they have not solved the power on led being too bright issue.
also the 3 ports only transmit sufficient power when the computer is on otherwise they only supply a small amount of power not enough for proper charging.
so why did they come out with this product?????????? the 7 port also charges devices when the computer is on. so unless you need 7 ports AND 3 charging
ports and have your computer on all the time, i guess that works.
