Product Description

Satechi ST-UHA USB 2.0 Hub adds four additional USB ports to your Mac (or PC), allowing you to connect USB devices such as digital cameras, phones, external hard drives, flash drives, and printers. It's sleek aluminum design with shielded white cable is the perfect complement to your Apple computer and products. It does not require any software or complicated installation process. With a slim, strip-shape design, it saves you precious desktop space. It's extremely portable and easy to move between systems or take on the road. Please Note:
For a stable connection, the devices connected to the 4 Port Aluminum hub must not exceed a combined current of 5 volts 500mAh. External hard-drives should be connected to an external power source. The Satechi 4 Port Aluminum hub will not charge an iPad (it will only sync).

However, the USB ports are not powered, so can't sync and power up iPhone, iPad,iPod, etc. as I was hoping from reading the entry in amazon

I was looking to get something to match my Mac Mini, from the picture it looks to have a brushed aluminum finish. It doesnt. Mine is glossy and the finish isnt smooth, rather rough.

Thats not the biggest issue. The design is overall poor design. As I speak, there is 1 USB cable plugged into it, going to an external drive. The weight of the cable is such that the back of the hub is off the desk. The bottom is basically elevated at a 45 degree angle. This is ridiculous.

What I recommend is going for the Antec Quad Port USB Charging Station (UA4-25). You get 2 1 amp and 2 2 amp ports, its white so it matches apple accessories/cables. A much better use of your money.

While offering pictures and verbage are very inticing, the actual product stinks. My fault that I assumed the direct attachment to my iMac or iMac keyboard with give enough power for these four usb slots. NO NA Nada. It's only positive feature is that the polished steel appearance looks neat. Don't waste your bucks on this dude..

Disappointing. My cursor did not work on some plugs. I tried everything then went back to my old hub. This one was probably defective and I should have sent it back,

I just purchased this item, used it for a day and returned it. I had it connected to the back of my IMac to provide additional usb ports. When I plugged an external drive into any of the ports, the connection was loose, and the drive would connect/disconnect by itself, or if it were moved a bit on my desk. The external drive had been connected to my desktop and laptop and connected fine, so the problem was with this hub. Amazon return service was great.

I really love the way this USB hub looks. It's functionality as a USB hub is pretty self-explanatory so let's get these details out of the way. It's unpowered, so don't expect to run bus powered external drives or other power hungry USB peripherals. And secondly, keep in mind it is a USB 2.0 hub and not a 3.0 hub.

But what sets this hub apart is it's beautiful, Apple-esque design that has been thought out to match an Apple user's setup perfectly. Matching aluminum, white plastic housing, angled slope with the round, spiral metallic end pieces (which are shinier than Apple's), and a USB cable that has a connector that resembles exactly like that of Apple's USB cable. At least I can't tell a difference between the two connectors! The cable itself is also very short. There is also a difference between the USB 2.0 hub and USB 3.0 hub from Satechi, and although I don't actually own the USB 3.0 hub, from the look of the pictures, this USB 2.0 hub is smaller, which is nice and matches more of the slope height of Apple's aluminum keyboard and Magic Trackpad.

Great USB hub. Highly recommended!

This Satechi Hub is great. I love the look, it matches well with my key board and track pad. I don't know exactly how to explain the product as far as transfer rate or speed or any thing like that...it's above my 'pay grade', all I can say is that everything I've plugged into the Hub like my camera and my iPhone and iPad as have preformed well and as if I had plugged these items in directly into the ports in the back of my iMac. Technically, it works great and visually is looks great. I'm also very pleased with the Satechi Support Team who emailed me to ensure I had received my Hub without difficulty and to let me know that they are there for me if I had any questions or concerns. I just love excellent customer support! I can buy great hubs anywhere just about but what I can't "buy" are people is truly believe in and demonstrate a desire to provide excellent customer service. I will definitely choose to buy from Satechi again.

THE PRO'S: The unit is nice looking and matches the design and metal look of my new Mac. I plugged it in and it linked seamlessly. It does exactly what it is designed to do.

THE CON'S: The unit comes with a 4 inch cord. If you are familiar with the current iMac (OS X Yosemite) the USB plugs are on the back of the unit (screen area) and when you plug this unit in, it just hangs with the end of the unit barely able to touch the desk. That makes it cumbersome and almost impossible to use. I had to go out and pay for an USB extension cord that was almost as expensive as the unit. Perhaps with the details as it was listed on Amazon, it did tell the reader the length of the cord, but I don't remember seeing it. Consequently I would have never purchased it. The price was competitive, however, when you add the extension cord, it made it way more costly than the it's competitors. Next, it took almost 4 weeks to receive it. Amazon did not list the origin of the unit (that I saw) and when I tried to communicate with the seller (through Amazon) I quickly realized it was coming from out of the country. Due to my complaints, once it arrived in the United States, they shipped it overnight. But it still took way too long for such a low price item.
Overall, the unit is nice looking, functions well (with the extension cord), but I would not recommend purchasing it for a desk top. It might work well with a laptop or tablet.
