PROS:
- Was easy to set up and the ipad (Retina 4) doesn't jump around or wobble.
- Can set it at a perfect angle to use safely while driving or parked.
- The arms was padded and it has a nonsliding back.
- You can mount it with a case on (I have standard Apple full cover) or without and it will hold it either way.
- Very easy to add/remove iPad frequently, there's a small switch at the bottom that loosen the arms... simply closing the arms will tighten them
- Price! Great deal
- Seems sturdy and well made
CONS:
- Not really a problem with this item as much as my car but I run into glare issues a bit
Note that I don't switch from portrait to landscape often and I also don't rotate it to the passenger seat, etc as well, so if these are features you really need then you should check out the other reviews.
Only problems I had were that in landscape, which I use most often, it covers the charge port, and in portrait it does as well. I solved this by inserting the iPad upside down in the mount and plugging in the charger from the top. Since the display rotates you don't know the difference until you try to push the button on the bottom, that is now on the top, but you can get used to it.
I do wish it had an optional longer arm. It's a bit difficult to position in my car because of where the cup holder is located. A longer arm would potentially solve this with the side effect of possibly more shake. Overall, I love it and it performs great.
I've been through six mounting brackets to hold my phone. I've tried vent clip-mounted, cup-holder mounted and even permanently mounted. Most of them were exceedingly poor at stabilizing the phone for one-handed use while driving - launching apps and pressing the home button, nothing as sophisticated at texting or anything that takes that volume of precise taps. So when I decided to look for a mount to hold my iPad in place for use as a GPS, my expectations were low.
The Satechi uses extendable, cushioned prongs to push against the sides of the cup holder to keep the base snugly in place. It holds very firmly without scratching the insides of the cup holder. Installing or removing the base is as simple as placing the base in the cup holder and twisting the extension arm to lock or release the base. The unit comes with two brackets, one for a phone and another for a tablet. Each bracket is easily attachable or removable via a sliding sleeve which locks on to a square notch on the top of the extension arm. Adding or removing your device is as simple as pressing the release button to allow the cushioned pressure arms to extend to their fullest size or squeezing ratcheting arms against the sides of the device.
Pros:
* Exceedingly stable, even when pressing the top of the device (furthest point from the fulcrum point at the base of the unit)
* Supports many different types of devices.
* Two brackets, one for a phone and one for a tablet
* Cup base doesn't scratch the cup holder
* The extender arm pivot (where the bracket attaches) is adjustable to change the device's angle
* Can mount my iPad in portrait or landscape
* Cushioned arms to hold the device in place
Cons:
* Due to the location of the pressure arms on the tablet bracket, there's no room for a 30-pin cable to be plugged in when holding the iPad in landscape mode. This is an annoyance for me because when the iPad is in portrait my polarized sunglasses are in phase with the iPad and I can't see the screen.
* When installing the base, you have to do a little trial and error to twist the base to get both the maximum amount of hold and the right rotational angle to face me.
* The square notch can rotate around a pivot point, but it locks at about 15 degree angles, so if your cup holder is stylized so that its tube is not perfectly perpendicular with the ground the extension arm doesn't go perfectly up and you can't quite get the rotation so that the device appears to be perfectly straight.
Conclusion:
This mount isn't perfect but it's close enough to be a must-buy for anyone looking for a high-quality, heavy-use mount.
The glue is pretty much worthless, and once the rubber comes off, if you lose the rubber and can't replace it, the unit is worthless.
Having said that, the smartphone and phablet holder work well; plenty of adjustments. I'm happy with that part.
But until I find a thin piece of rubber to repair the unit, it sits on a shelf in my garage.

only down side is , i only have 1 cup holder in the front.
First, installing into the cup holder (2011 Camry) requires that you put it in place then rotate the upper assembly to tighten it. It took a few tries to get it so that the folding arms were oriented appropriately.
Once installed, there is a limited range of positions that can be chosen. Although it can be adjusted to any angle using the two adjustment buttons, the short upper arm is limiting. I would have preferred to have an extending arm to provide more options.
The iPhone mount is very low... I haven't used it with a tablet (separate bracket included) but there is not much room between the console and the connection point. If you're hoping to use this to hold your phone/tablet for use as a GPS note that, depending on the position of your cup holders, you have to look a long way down to see the screen. Very dangerous. A vent, window or dash mount would better suit this purpose.
I've been using it for a week and it works, just not be aware of the caveats mentioned above.
