Editorial Reviews

From 1995 to 2002 Will Ferrell dominated “Saturday Night Live” with characters as different as Craig the Cheerleader and President George W. Bush. See the best of Celebrity Jeopardy and Bobbi and Marty Culp, along with plenty of yelling, near-nudity, and more cowbell. “The Best of Will Ferrell” features over 30 minutes of all new special features, including dress rehearsals, sketches and Weekend Update features.

I know I'm in the minority, but I thought vol. 2 had a much better selection of sketches. The breakdown on vol. 1:

-Bobbi & Marty's Drug Awareness Medley: A good start; the piano arrangements of various pop, rap, and rock songs is good stuff.
-Behind the Music - Blue Öyster Cult: Admittedly a classic skit, but if you own the Christopher Walken SNL DVD (as I do), you already have this.
-Dissing Your Dog: Another funny sketch, but also a repeat from another SNL DVD: Best of Commercial Parodies.
-Spartans Chess Tournament: I was never a fan of the Spartan cheerleaders, and this skit's no exception. A couple laughs but nothing special.
-The Coconut Bangers Ball: Much like "Red Ships of Spain" from vol. 2, Ferrell as Robert Goulet should be funnier than it actually is.
-Montage: It contains snippets of two skits already on vol. 2, with Will Ferrell in a thong at a board room meeting and being birthed as a middle-aged man. Both funny, but the full skits are on vol. 2. I did like the snippet with the mini-cell phone, though.
-Jeopardy!: Now we're talking: Any Jeopardy! skit is classic, including this one. Jimmy Fallon does a fantastic French Stewart.
-Inside the Actor's Studio: With Charles Nelson Reilly. Another repeat; this time from The Best of Alec Baldwin.
-Lucifer Songs: So bizarre that it's great. Why would anyone be afraid of this Satan?
-Montage 2: Again, a repeat from vol. 2 where Janet Reno faces off against Rudy Giuliani.
-Space: The Infinite Frontier: Will Ferrell as Harry Caray is funny for about ten seconds, then gets tiring very fast.
-Hot Tub Lovers: Would be forgettable if it weren't for the actors repeatedly cracking up.
-The Roxbury Guys: With Jim Carrey.

I pretty much bought this because it has "More Cow Bell" with Will and Christopher Walken. I like Cheri O'Terri and the Spartans routines, too.

Solid compilation, but the best of # 2 and #3 were disappointing. Could have included different skits instead of lengthening the #1 skits

My family loved this composite of Will Ferrell's exploits on SNL. Talent like his doesn't come around that often.
