If you never tried walking shoes before, they have a stiff sole (unlike running shoes). The only bend in the shoe is at the toe. The leather is quality and looks clean and attractive. I like the large toe box that offers a lot of space for my toes to move and expand. There are reflectors on the back to improve night visibility. Best part, I did not find these shoes any cheaper anywhere else.
If you walk a lot, like me, try these shoes. They are a great shoe at a great price.
These shoes help me avoid pain stemming from overpronation when I wear them for moderate walks (three miles or so at a solid pace) and for daily activities; without adequate support I get knee and bunion irritation, and these shoes provide enough stabilization to avert discomfort.
But...I took these shoes on a sightseeing vacation where I was walking about eight miles a day, and I found that these shoes weren't as well-suited for that kind of use. I developed pinch blisters between my toes, similar to those that runners can get. My hunch is that a few factors were at play: the shoes do not breathe very well--so my feet do get sweaty when I wear them--and the toe box is just a bit narrow. While my knees were grateful for the support the shoes offered during my trip, those blisters hurt, and I'll probably be taking a look at Brooks for next year's travels.
But your feet will appear significantly larger across both length and width axes. My friend called them "custodian shoes." Not nonslip. Really comfortable, and a bargain for the price. High arches would benefit from an additional arch support added, but definitely not uncomfortable without. There is nothing uncomfortable with these shoes, unless you count vanity.
I wanted to try some different shoes out and the high number of positives had me interested. Perhaps I got a newer model than those reviewers who liked the arch support? But they didn't work for me. I did like the cushioning in the heel though.
