- It looks very nice when it is all set up
- There is tons of room for equipment and speakers
- Incredibly flimsy!!!!
- TV mount will not hold the screen vertical!!
- Clumsy to assemble
Overall I like the look of the product, but would not purchase again. I got the stand because I needed to create room for a new, large center channel. I found that every shelf except for the top shelf is very flimsy. When I set my center channel on the middle shelf it bows significantly, nearly an inch. It is to the point that I don't want to put the speaker on the front edge. The is the same story with the bottom shelf. I have a nice receiver that is fairly heavy and I am not comfortable putting it in the middle of the shelf because of how much the glass bows under the weight.
Further, I have a 46" Samsung LCD TV that is a few years old and the mount will not hold it vertical! I have installed it correctly and tried several times, but the screen tilts all the way forward. The mount cannot hold the weight even though the packaging says it is rated up to 50". So now my screen tilts down all the time. I have installed several TVs on wall mounts and found the mount on this stand to be much, much more flimsy.
While I like the clean look of the stand, I find that to be the only redeeming quality as I fear for the safety of the electronics I have put on it. Also, if I had small children I would be very afraid of the stability of the screen mount. Overall, I am quite dissatisfied with the product and would return it if it were smaller and easier to repack.
I would only buy it if I had a very small TV and it was $75 or less. It is not worth this price.
Just to be clear, the black glass shelves are glass with black painted on the bottom. Not disappointed as they still look great, but just wanted other buyers to know that it's not actually black glass - be careful not to scratch the underside and take the black off!
Now, I have a 46" TV that is propped up against the wall in my home that I have to decide whether to sell, or shell out more money and buy a different mount feature (and hope the stand can take it) or buy a new stand altogether. Disappointed that it does not function as advertised. Would recommend only SMALL TVs (I have my 36" Sony @ approx. 20 lbs on it now and it works great).
The shelves are rated at 25lbs. each. This is not a lot of capacity so, plan component placement accordingly. (Big, heavy amps are a no-no.)
Make sure you put the correct glass shelves where they are designed to go. The top one cannot fit in any other place but, the other two look almost identical and they are not! The middle shelf is slightly thicker than the bottom shelf. If you get them mixed up, the middle shelf will not bear the weight as it should and act very flimsy. The bottom shelf has more support points than the middle. This is why it is thinner.
There is a wire management system built into the back which is functional and all wires can be hidden.
As for the tilt problem many people seem to be having, I have a Visio 50" 4K LED flat screen mounted weighing in at almost 34lbs. and have no problems. On the other hand, I cranked the tilt adjustment knobs very tight before I mounted them to the TV. This made the tilt stiff but, it holds where I set it. I knew to do this from the complaints I read here in the comments section and experience at work with similar monitor mounts. Once these mounts are on the TV, it is VERY difficult to get leverage on them to adjust them as tight as they need to go.
Hint on the middle shelf. There are adjustment slugs which hold the middle glass in place. There are silicone tips inserted into these slugs to hold the glass with out breaking it. These inserts can fall out. Make sure they are in place as you remove them from the package to install them. They are very small and hard to see once they fall out. (Ask me how I know.) With out them, the glass will not stay in place as it should.
This about wraps it up. The unit works very well for most applications. If you have a large amp and/or surround system, you will need an auxiliary shelving unit to hold it. ( I have a large Denon surround sound system with combined direct output stereo amp. It runs my surround sound for the TV and components and also is my amp for my CD player, reel to reel tape deck and turntable. I have it housed in a separate shelving unit beside the TV.)
On the TV shelf, I have the D-VHS tape deck, Blu-ray player, Large center speaker, Satellite receiver, audio clock and timer, external hard drives for the DVR and the DVR.
I love the look and functionality.
