Wright diverted from his usual subjects in this 1954 novel, which is his only creation to feature all white characters. In addition, rather than depicting racial injustice, the book is essentially a psychological thriller.

This short novel, however, wasn't particularly polished. There are numerous typos in the text and two glaring issues of continuity as regards to the plot. The actions of characters weren't always entirely believable either, but if you read the afterword by Gerald Early, the symbolism of the story becomes clearer.
With all that in mind, I would highly recommend Savage Holiday to any Richard Wright fans out there, especially those who are interested in exploring his expatriate books which never quite made the canon.
