Epoc and Declan are werewolves in clans that have been warring with each other for centuries. Declan's ancestor killed Epoc's mate. Since then, Epoc has killed all of Declan's relatives except Declan. Epoc now has Declan in a cage and plans to kill him soon. Regan, a human, is an animal rights activist. She breaks into Epoc's lab planning to set all the animals free. Declan is in wolf form in a cage when she starts to free him. Epoc's guards try to stop her, but she and Declan get away. The rest of the story is about Regan and Declan being on the run from Epoc and his clan. Regan's brother Peter is a cop who is trying to follow and find Regan.
A lot of long, explicit and erotic sex scenes. Not enough character development for me. I wasn't interested in the characters. The overall plot concept was good, but I didn't like the events that carried it out. A few things were done that were not very smart, described in spoilers below.
Story length: 246 pages. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: strong/erotic with rear door activity. Number of sex scenes: 7. Total number of sex scene pages: 38. Setting: current day Sydney, Australia. Copyright: 2008. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.
Peter is a cop and carries a cell phone. After escaping Epoc's guards, when Regan has a chance to call Peter, she calls his office to leave a message. Later while on the run she does this again, calling his office instead of his cell phone. The office then calls Peter on his cell to pass on the message. I couldn't understand why she didn't call his cell phone directly both of those times. She's his sister; she should have had his personal number.
When Declan was temporarily unconscious, Regan put him in chains in a barn. She said it was to keep him in one place while she left to find a vet to come help him. The next minute, the bad werewolves arrive. Only Declan has the strength to save her, but he can't protect her because she chained him up. She knew that werewolves were after them and so far only Declan had been able to protect her. I was shaking my head at this one. I couldn't find any rational reason for her to chain him.
Peter does a terrible job of being a cop because he's attracted to and being influenced by a beautiful woman who is a spy for the bad guys. Out of his stupidity and confusion he helps the bad guys kidnap Regan. Also, Peter thinks Declan is a bad guy and fights him even though Regan is telling him to stop. He was not fun to read about.
High-profile animal rights activist Regan Thomas sneaks into an animal testing facility, and manages to rescue a wolf...but he's actually Declan O'Connell, a werewolf. And the lab owner is Nathan Epoc, a Scottish werewolf from a rival clan. Epoc wants to siphon Dec's power. Dec wants to punish Epoc. And Regan wants to shag Dec...or run away from him, alternately.
This is a fun romp, as long you don't think about it too hard. Unprotected shagging with someone you've known less than a day? Dec could've had rabies, for all we know. And there's a lot of running/driving around whilst nude, but generally the public didn't notice (minus one kindy group).
The author does well in making detective Yolanda Vischka rather grey, her presence either a coincidence or a conspiracy. Thus Regan's cop brother is confused about his new partner, though suspect or not he totally wants to do her.
If you're looking for a Sydney version of Keri Arthur, Lexxie Couper may do the trick.
P.S. A pronunciation guide for the Celtic words would've been helpful.
