So I got the white paper roll and it is great!
Roll out how much you need and anything that gets damaged just cut it off!
Make sure to get a few clamps for the top (plastic HF) and bottom (metal HF) and you are good to go!
No, really, it really is.
I wanted to go for the paper backdrop look for my video production, and this worked perfectly. Keep in mind this is a HEAVY roll - so cheap $15 backdrop stands may struggle to hold it up. Mine did okay.
My space doesn't have room for the full 107" wide backdrop, but 53" isn't quite wide enough for a good camera lens width for video (just fine for portraits), so I actually cut a long piece off and mounted it sideways to achieve the look.
Paper is thick and high quality.
The thickness is comparable to about two pages of construction paper. It's pretty stiff. It maybe a bit thicker than how I described it. It could be as thick as the cereal box cardboard honestly but didn't have my caliper at the time so I wasn't able to measure it. In either case this isn't a paper that will tear or wrinkle easily. This isn't some large cheap thin bright white copy paper. While it will get dirty faster than darker, it's a must for white background or seamless photographs for products. Highly recommended!
One thing I noticed though is that there's a texture with this paper. Like construction paper like texture so if you're doing any sort of product photography, you may want to make a note that the texture will show; not horrible but it won't be like regular printer paper that's smooth.
This a good guy !!!
The case and devise I was shooting required three lights to illuminate, one overhead and one of either side. With enough illumination, the case and devise appear to be suspended in space. You can't tell the paper has any tint to it.
Savage has consistent color from beginning of the roll to the end, so shots taken at the start of the shoot have the same color as shots taken near the end of the roll.
It is medium-thick and medium-bright, so it resists crinkling and reflects pretty well. When unrolling it, you do have to think about what you are doing as it does want to unspool if not kept in check. Have clamps, tape or moderately heavy objects available to keep the loose end under control while unspooling, or better yet, be two people doing it. I recommend the 4-1/2 inch Heavy Duty Muslin Clamps (pack of 6) as good tools to use with the paper. They are plastic but clamp tightly without needing monstrous effort.
Do not buy cheap, light-duty stands for this if you plan on keeping the roll in one piece and unrolling it as backdrop. It weighs enough to merit decent stands.
This is excellent paper from a company known for such products. Well worth the money.
Pros: it looks nice. It's not big enough for a puppy that'll move back & fourth but just big enough for my dog to lay in the middle of it. Definatly not big enough for larger breeds like Bernese mountain dogs, if you were to photograph them on here. It's probably wide enough for a model to just stand straight. Other then that the photos come out well.
-It gets dirty REALLY easily. I originally thought this was vinyl but it's just paper. I keep the setup in the basement so his feet get dirty as he walks on the basement floor then on to the paper. Then I either have to edit the dirty prints out or rip that whole area of paper out. I'd say I've already ripped 2/3 of the roll off. I don't recommend this if you're keeping it in somewhere like a basement.
