Systemd Plugged in Everywhere!

When I discovered this book, it unlocked the full erotic potential of what an init system could could be. Since buying this book, I'm filled with desire to migrate and unify everything in Systemd. I want my console in systemd. I want my mount in systemd. I want my syslogs in systemd, saved as binary data because I love my troubleshooting rough. Even my bootmanger should be in systemd (so very, very soon).

If there weren't laws against it, I would even dare say: I want Emacs in Systemd.

Certain delicate readers might be understandably reluctant to purchase due to the lascivious subject matter, so please let me reassure you on this front: while an especially dreamy pepperoni-and-pineapple pizza is mentioned, it is not actually consumed. All pineapple pizza-related content is suggestive only.

In the Unix tradition of "unzip, touch, finger, mount, fsck, eject, umount" porn, the author entertains the seductive forwardness of systemd in contrast to the sterile, proven, trusted, and lonely world of Linux system administration. Sure, the review/rant about systemd could probably fit in a one page white paper, or perhaps a short threaded tweetstorm, but then we would have missed out on all the fun!

If you're a Linux sys admin or play one on TV buy and read this book.

An excellent introduction to Systemd

An excellent, if somewhat unconventional, introduction to the dangers and pitfalls of systemd, written in narrative form from the perspective of a veteran sysadmin reminiscing about his first hands-on experience interfacing with it. Highly recommended for sysadmins and for any distro maintainer currently considering switching from a SysV-style or BSD-style init to systemd.

As a piece of literature, this novella quickly grabs the reader's attention and never lets go. The prose flows well, and the story draws on a healthy dose of self-deprecating humor that most readers should recognize and identify with. The text could have benefited from an additional round of proofreading, but my only real complaint is that the brief attempt to break the fourth wall is completely unnecessary, as the required object could easily have been left behind from a company outing, or something along those lines.
