From the Author
On New Year's Eve 2000, the stroke of midnight returned magic, both light and dark, to the world.
Discordia Jones missed it.
Struck down at that same instant like a cut-rate Cinderella/Sleeping Beauty mash up, she awakened three years later to a far stranger life, and saddled with psychic abilities.
Working as a private investigator for Arcane Solutions only brings on more strangeness.
At least there aren't talking mice...

This is the author's third book in the series. Her main character, Discord Jones, remains consistent throughout, yet we also get to see her grow into herself and her abilities and better channel her efforts into more constructive approaches. Still, the element of "rash" is a constant theme, and the reader is left wondering how it is that Cordi can manage to survive the potentially deadly outcomes of her more impulsive decisions. In those instances, "supernatural abilities" would hardly seem sufficient to rescue this girl from her terrifying sense of invulnerability against the demons she encounters in her quest to vanquish evil.
The outcome for the reader, however, is a story that you can't put down and one that leaves you yearning for the next chapter. Hats off to Ms. Drummond for a fascinatingly creative story that at the same time is recognizable as a very human tale of a search for love and reconciliation.
And this story has more personal angles than prior ones when it comes to her family and relationships. It's definitely got an emotional element to it. I was going to say that you've just got to love her parents, but then realized how many other characters I'd want to list along with that remark.
I'm truly enjoying the characters, situations and the world that was built and can't wait to see what happens next. A caring magically kick-butt heroine who keeps putting herself in danger to help others is the best reason to keep coming back. Witches, warlocks, and their familiars, demons, shifters, vampires, elves, gargoyles and demon fighting magical dogs also make the stories interesting.
So anyway, without spoiling anything, I was mildly on Team Nick, although I thought he needed to grow up or have a "trapped in an elevator/cabin/dungeon" moment with Logan at some point so he could relax. I met his brother and went down a point. Then I saw his family's plans and I thought, "Uh, oh, run, Cordi, run!"
Not that her relationships are the focus of the plot. They're like a sub-sub-sub plot. It's an action-based series that's part modern noir/private detective and part sword-and-sorcery in the city-- with a heavy dose of sarcasm from the protagonist. Hence the reason I can't just pick it up and read a chapter a day. It moves fast and you don't want to stop turning pages. I'm so glad so many other people have figured out how fun this series is!
