Lots of plastic bags.
How can you help clean up the contaminated environment &the water?

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) fantasy storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s fantasy movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

While the book is cute, the illustrations are bright and inviting, the read-aloud video is what really sells this story.
I think the message of this book would be more profound if Kaleisha and Agwe could have interacted with the land people and some images of people actually helping to clean the ocean were included. Still, overall, this is a light and fun read. There's a cute search and find activity at the end that really highlights the gorgeous illustrations.
For me, it was a plus to see a black mermaid. I liked that the color of the mermaid's skin had nothing to do with the story and message at all. That's just who she is.
Recommended for an adult who wants to start an environmental conversation with a kid or for any kids wanting to read something short and sweet for storytime.
Kaleisha, a multicultural mermaid, asks her friend, Agwe, the turtle to take her on a tour. When he chokes upon eating a plastic bag, which he thinks is a jellyfish, readers are introduced to the principle of the 3 R's in climate conservation. They are to reduce the amount of trash we generate, reduce waste, and recycle products.
Bonus activities include a search and find that makes the book an interactive learning tool, activities using the 3 R'S, and a few ocean facts too enrich young minds.
