IT'S TOO BEAUTIFUL! This is the kind of novel that willbreak your heart so much that only weeping in silencewould be able to expresshow you feel. Not sobbing out loud, wailing or crying, but weeping in silence asyou find out how Jack and Sophia has suffered at the hands of the people whomake them do the things they do. - Victoria, Revenge of the Feels.

This story absolutely tore me apartin pieces, but I wanted to keep reading and keep reading!! - Louise Mckie,Roses & Violets Book Reviews.

5 deeply dark stars!! This book is dark, disturbing and so d@mn good!! I love agood dark book and this book was it for me!!! - Melissa Mendoza, Alpha BookClub.

This is a beautiful story, where redemption, pain, love find each other, astory where scarred souls find a way to heal. - Laura Leiva, Letter ShelvesBlog.

A story of despair, hopelessness and abuse all turned around in a heartbeatupon meeting one woman. The innocence and vulnerability of someone relearningthe simplest acts of life, trust, love and beyond is just heartwarming andpieced my broken heart back together after the initial darkness this storyheld. Light always wins over dark and that is very much the case in 'Saved byHer'. - Susan Scott, Ladies Living in Bookland

***ARC received in exchange for an HONEST REVIEW and reviewed by me for Connected by Books***

I'm a HUGE fan of dark stories, and it saddens me to say that, in my opinion, this book has been badly categorized - it's neither dark, nor suspenseful. But I still read it and here are my thoughts.

While the blurb is well written, the execution left a lot to be desired. Maybe my expectations were too high, but when an author tells me I'll be disturbed by some scenes in the book, I want to be disturbed, disgusted and left wondering WTH has just happened.

Told in dual POV, I found 'Saved by Her' to be a sweet, fast read, with interesting enough characters, but due to the short length of the novel, I didn't have enough time to fall in love with them (the book ended at 69% on my kindle - for me that's novella length).

Jack and River both have awful backgrounds that weren't explored enough, in my opinion. Their love story was so rushed, that I didn't even see it coming. Jack moved on so fast from the tortured soul that he was, that it felt like he had a split personality disorder. The secondary characters were mere caricatures, it was hard to connect with any of them - Adam would've been an interesting one to explore, but I was just left blah about him.

The climax for this story it was so anticlimactic - I was reading waiting for something dark and twisted to happen, and that never came - the entire story felt like a YA take on dark reads.

I'm sorry for not being able to rate the story higher, I'm honestly still trying to figure out what rating to leave, but I think I'll give it a generous 3 star as I believe that the author has potential, but she needs to work harder on the execution, and categorize her novels accordingly.

The monsters in the title refer to people who keep and use sex slaves. The one saved is Jack which is a twist to the usual sex slave being a woman. He's been a sex slave from the age of eight after his mother was killed thanks to his stepfather. To protect his younger half brother , Jack behaves and does what he is told to do. Her refers to River, the daughter of a slaver, who also kept and sold sex slaves. Now that her father is dead, River uses his ill gotten gains to finance saving slaves by buying them and offering them a life of freedom. Jack's life has been so befret of anything except being used for sex. It is sad to find out how little he's experienced outside of being a slave. This book was very hard to put down and it was very gratifying to follow Jack's restoration to the man he might have been if not for his stepfather's interference. Jack and River together find healing in helping each other.

Jack is a broken, shattered, damaged man. Raised by his monster of a step father he is forced to be a slave at the age of 9. To protect and guarantee the safety of his younger brother, Jack becomes a sexual slave that endures the beatings, rapes, and cruelty from his masters and mistresses.

River is a woman on a mission. To right the wrongs of her father that sold her mother and others like her as a sexual slave, she risks everything to save slaves and give them a place to heal and be free. When River sees Jack being abused by a sadistic mistress, she will not stop till he is free from his tormentors.

This was an epic story of innocence lost, redemption and strength. Jack was an amazing character that gave up his life for brotherly love. He could have found a way out instead he stayed and endured the abuse that was forced on him. I loved seeing him grow from a man child to a man that knows what it takes for him to be whole and let go of his past. He could have been so far gone but he was able to create and see beauty with his plants.

River is a woman that seeks redemption and peace from someone else's cruelty. She did not have to go on this journey to right her father's wrongs but she knows it must be done. She is so patient and loving with Jack dealing with the confusion and mistrusts that lives inside him. But River is starting to question just what she feels for Jack, friend or lover? And is Jack ready for love and the feelings that come with that emotion?

There are some serious heartbreaking moments in this book that just make you hurt and feel raw. But there are some really beautiful breath taking moments that over power the heartache. Well done Michelle Horst!

I love a good dark read and Michelle Horst didn't disappoint me. This was the story of River and Jack. My heart hurt for Jacks life. Holy H E double hockey sticks how he managed to pull through was amazing to me. Her turning a bad thing into a good deed was admirable. I pretty much would have read this book in a day if I could. I'm also a crazy fast reader and yes I'm retaining the story. While a dark read in a sense and it does deal with some sensitive topics like some other darker reads I didn't feel guilty for reading about it. I liked these two characters and I'm glad it has an HEA. Not for sensitive folks who can't handle a gritty side of reality. Enjoy

I absolutely LOVE what River and Adam are doing; atoning he fathers sins. Jack and Sophia have been abused, beat, and raped for the majority of their lives; this is the story of finding themselves and healing. The story is good but, honestly wasn't a page turner for me. I would have liked a bit more drama.
