I did find it difficult in the very beginning of the book to follow, just because there was world building, character building, but I had no idea why the world was the way it was. However, I feel that that worked in my favor because it allowed me to be surprised as the plot developed. Once that happened, I finished the book in a very short period of time, I just couldn't put it down! The writing is so well-done that it transports you to that world, putting you in place of the characters. It's truly captivating and extremely enjoyable, and leaves you wanting more.
I fell in love with Sadie, and even watched her character developed into somebody stronger during the story, and this is just the first book! While I'm very interested in her and Logan and how the relationship will develop, I also find myself invested in secondary characters, and that doesn't happen often in a book. These characters paid such intricate rolls and woven so well with your main characters that it's almost like a second story within the story.
The romance is sweet, has its own ups and downs, but romance is always my favorite part of the book and I got plenty in Saven Deception. I embraced the Eterno connection. It makes the romance more intense! However, romance isn't all this book is about. There is corrupt governments, aliens living among them without knowing, mystery and intrigue and keeps you wondering what is going to happen next.
I love that Siobhan does not leave her books with huge cliffhangers. I will come back and read any additional books in the series if the series is written well. I'm not a big fan of cliffhangers that leave you waiting with characters hanging in the balance. I also appreciate that I do not have to wait for a year to find out what's going on in the story. This makes to Siobhan one of my favorite writers , not just because her books are wonderful and creative and romantic but also because she respects her readers enough to work hard on getting her books out in a reasonable amount of time.
I'm very excited about seeing what happens in the second book, and how these characters continue to develop and change their world with the surprises, and plot twists I can't begin to imagine what will happen next . I give my highest recommendation, not only the Saven series, but the Tru Calling series. If you haven't read that series yet, I suggest you buy that now and read it while you're waiting on the next book to come out in the series. You won't be disappointed!
You have suspense, Dystopia, sci-fi, romance, and friendship all wrapped into one. Most books that try to put so much in one book just cannot pull it off, but Siobhan did it with ease. I was able to follow through the book without having to question anything. It all made sense as I was reading. Even all the Alien things that pop up don't have anything to me that didn't make sense. I felt like I was right there with the characters.
As I was reading, I had my own personal movie playing in my head. I was able to swoon and drool over Logan the whole time. I felt a deep pull towards Logan and could stare at him just like Sadie. He has so much mystery to his character yet so much sweetness at the same time. I can't wait to learn more about him and see how his character progresses.
Sadie is a very strong willed character. You know she goes through so much at her old home and you can see her come out into a brand new person once she can get out and breath. She starts to come out of her shell in a wonderful way. Most female leads are annoying and whiny, but she is anything but.
I found myself so connected to each and everyone one of the characters in some way. I felt their emotions just as they did. Even Dante who I couldn't stand seems to be have a hidden personality that I want to get to know.
I don't know how Siobhan can write with such a flow, but she has easily stolen my first place spot for Favorite Author. Her characters have depth, her worlds have such detail, and the ideas just make sense. The length of the book would usually make me worried about the slowness of it, but she doesn't have any of that. From the second you start reading you are drawn into the book and keep going until the last page. I read this book in between moving and I did all that I could to try to even get a page in here or there because I wanted to know what happened next.
This was such a great read and I can't wait to devour the next book.
The character development and world-building had me hooked by chapter 3. Sadie does not use her less than ideal upbringing as an excuse to make bad decisions. She is flawed but strong, both traits I admire in leading ladies. The secondary characters are also strong and very well defined.
The alien angle developed a little slowly, but I got the answers I wanted in the end. And the realities were actually much worse than I was expecting, which was intriguing. So amidst this intense love affair we now have a serious moral dilemma.
And the love affair is HOT! I hate the back and forth, on again, off again, nature of the relationship, but I understand that it built up to the real thing. and the real thing is beautiful!
