I love Rachel!! She is a very strong person and throughout the book I came to like her even more!!! Whereas with Brad....I didn’t like him, not really at all!! But I came to like him. Rachel is good for him. They were good for each other.
Oh....I have to insert this here....I think Faye would be the coolest chic to have as a friend!! She’s an AWESOME, LOYAL, CARING friend and the girl is SOOO FUNNY!!!
Anyway, it was nice to see the old Brad....the one from book 1 of the Kennedy Boys series (Finding Kyler)....when he was such a sweetheart. If you haven’t read that book....holy crap! You. Are. Missing. Out.
So...if you asked me at 30% if I recommend it...well......BUT NOW IF YOU ASK ME, IM LIKE HECK YEAH!!! READ THIS BOOK!!!
Before diving into this 5th installment of author Siobhan Davis’ Kennedy Boys series, I felt a bit ambivalent. Because, truth be told, I was never “team Brad.” And for the first portion of this book, my initial opinion never wavered. But, in the end, Brad miraculously won me over. And the journey to that final destination, was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Yet, what a crazy, spectacular ride it was!
Although Rachel had been introduced in prior books, she’s been a bit more of an enigma. She closed herself off—bottling up her emotions, nice and tight. Often, her propensity for self-destructive behavior was fully on display. But one thing was clearly obvious—Rachel was hiding something huge, even from her closest friends. Finally, that secret would be revealed; a secret that proved to be darker than I ever had imagined.
On the surface, it would seem that Brad and Rachel are like oil and water—a combination that just doesn’t mix. Their relationship was clearly volatile; their coming together, never short of tumultuous. But, oh, how the sparks do fly!! Yet in those rare moments when they dared to lower their respective walls, their shared vulnerability connected them in a way that neither had expected. And once that bond was formed, it paved the way for deeper feelings to eventually develop and grow. Hence, love wasn’t too far behind. But before Brad could hope to move forward with Rachel, he had to first put to rest the unrequited feelings he had for Faye—the girl he thought he loved, but who would never, ever be his.
So, what happens when you cross a good-looking, arrogant, man-whoring jerk with a feisty Irish girl with a killer body who’s looking to make a fresh start? You get Brad and Rachel’s story--a highly explosive journey that you won’t soon forget. And one thing is for certain… if you aren’t “team Brad” to start, you’ll no doubt, be cheering for him by the end.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book.
Brad is supposedly in love with his best friend’s girl and that girl is best friend’s with Rachel. A love triangle all around and Rachel refuses to be with Brad more than a hook up or develop feelings for him because she won’t be second choice. It all comes to a head one day between Brad and Ky and because they are roommates it has Ky move in with his g.f. Faye and Rachel who is Faye’s roommate moving in with Brad. As Brad and Rachel come to an understanding that they are just friends with no benefits so their living arrangement can work but being close everyday reeks havoc on both of them, as they are attracted to each other and they can’t forget the steamy times they have shared in the past. But Rachel is afraid of something or someone and it’s Brad that she turns to when her past comes colliding with her present.
There are so many emotions and different conflicts going on and even though the story is long, there is not one word, one sentence, one paragraph, one page that is unnecessary. There’s Brad struggle with his infactuation with Faye, his relationship with Ky, his mother and sisters and of course his confusing feelings for Rachel. Then there’s Rachel who is in between the love triangle, dealing with her past and trying to start over, and fighting her feelings for Brad while being there to support him.
There were many times during the last half of this read when Brad finally comes to his senses and when we find out Rachel’s secret that I had to put the book down and take a deep breath to continue. Then there were the times when I had to put it down to wipe my tears because I couldn’t see the pages they were so blurry. Then there were the times I was so angry I had to put my kindle down so I didn’t throw it.
The strength and the courage that Rachel has and being able to offer her support and compassion to her friends when they need it after everything she has been through and going through....WOW just WOW.
This story was unbelievably emotional for me and it goes to the writing talent of this author to be able to provoke all the emotions and reactions above that I had to buy the book even though I received an ARC to show my support as I was in awe of this read.
