I loved the characters; they are easy to relate too and connect to. Cassie is a great female lead. She is the perfect mix of strong and vulnerable. Logan, is down right swoon-worthy. And James is the best friend everyone wishes they had.
This story has so many layers and that kept the story interesting and moving. In the beginning I felt like Cassie and didn't want to trust anyone. This is a very well written story and I cannot wait to read more from Ms.
The paranormal element is that of characters being 'possessed' by the villain's 'spirit'.
Cassie was orphaned the day before her 6th birthday when an intruder enters the family home & murders her parents. She ends up living in Fairfield Corner's with her Gram.
Years later Cassie is returning to run her grandmother's book store after she passes away. After a bad relationship she has no intention of looking for another man. Logan is also escaping a love gone wrong & definitely doesn't have a woman or love on his radar. He does however have Cassie on his crusier's radar & pulls her over as she is returning to town. She vows to put him in his place as soon as she talks to James who is not only Sheriff but her best friend.
Now the story takes on a romantic tone filled with paranormal events. Cassie & Logan are thrown together in order to keep her safe & we all know there's a fine line between love and hate. As Logan works to keep Cassie safe the sparks begin to fly and although the intentions are good these two just can't resist each other.
With all that transpires & both their pasts looming above them can they see beyond the events entangling them to find something they both need & deserve?
I very much enjoyed this book. So much so that I continued onto book 2 & 3 before I even stopped to review this book.
3 out of 5 stars
I loved the prologue of this book. It was mysterious, captivating, and quickly hooked me in. It set up the promise of a young child on the cusp of a paranormal adventure and I couldn’t wait to turn the page and dive in.
The story of Cassie, whose parents are murdered in front her on the eve of her sixth birthday, is one of cold reality. She returns to her beloved Fairfield Corners after the death of her Gram, who raised her, to take over the bookstore she left to her. We quickly met her future love interest in Deputy Logan Miller and the sparks fly between them. She is on her way into town and a meet up with her lifelong best friend James when Logan pulls her over and gives her a speeding ticket.
I thought it slightly ironic that the story started with a speeding ticket, because that’s how I felt about the book…like it was speeding. Often times I wanted Remenicky to slow down and take the time to go more in depth. I wanted more development of all the characters both individually and as pairs. The most well developed coupling was the friendship between Cassie and James. I enjoyed their banter and fully “bought into” their friendship. However, despite the chemistry between Cassie and Logan, their pairing felt very rushed and somewhat forced.
What at first seemed to be a paranormal adventure I couldn’t wait to read ended up feeling slightly silly. Once again, I think that there is much potential in the plot for an awesome book and great storytelling. With a little more character development and a slowed down rhythm this book could be great. If you are looking for a quick, on the surface read then this book is for you.
*I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
Logan had a dream when he was younger, he had to save Reggie. He had been looking for her ever since his dream. He was a deputy sheriff in the small town where Megan's Grandma lived.
Megan and Logan meet, strange things happen at the house, her abusive ex is released. Logan and James, the sheriff and Megan's best friend try to protect her in case the ex returns.
They find out that a demon is trying to kill Megan. Find out if they protect her from the demon.
This was a quick read, very well written. Can't wait to read the next book
