It paints a wonderfully, laid-back setting near the beach, concerning a troubled, lonely man who falls in love with a driven, beautiful, yet scorned woman, and how their relationship unfolds through his twisting internal battles and her hesitancy to trust again.
This story enjoyably affirms the power of love while showing how difficult it is to surrender to it. The writing is magical pouring-from-the-heart stuff that will provoke you to think about not just your romantic relationships but the importance of your family and friends in your life.
Abel has a killer instinct for setting up very real and genuine connections between characters and skillfully heats the pages with the fiery chemistry of Jay and Jade. There is something to be said for an inked-up businessman like Jay. Cautiously controlled on the outside. Wild and passionate beneath his crisp, designer sleeves. And the tattoo-artist, Jade, is his perfect match. My God, the sexy scenes are scorching.
Without a shadow of a doubt, this is a rewarding, funny, and kickass romance. It heralds the decency of romantic love against the gears of family expectations and the messy heartbreak of bygone relationships. I couldn’t be happier with Jay’s story.

Jason “Jay” Clarke Jr. has had big shoes that he’s tried to fill by being the person his father wanted him to be and by becoming the next CEO of Clarke Industries. He lost himself in the process & because of this he also lost Asia in book 1 of the series. He has since found himself and is solid in the man he wants to be. But he’s looking for a deeper commitment and more in a relationship. He’s ready for love and wants a great woman. To work through his life issues, he pours himself into work and building his own empire, working out by running & lifting weights. His other therapy is the pain of tattoo needles and adding to the ink on his body, which has steadily grown through the last several years.
Jade was Asia’s college roommate for the first semester before she dropped out so she could become a tattoo apprentice with one of the top premier tattoo artists in the nation. She also is the one who got Asia the appointment with him & he tattooed her tiger. But now she is moving on from a broken heart and a failing, bad relationship in which she stayed too long. She also knows that she has to get out of Boston and the life she had there. She decides to strike out on her own, opening her own tattoo shop and several of her friends & co-workers decide to make the move with her & help her in this new venture.
When Jay meets Jade, he is shocked by how he is instantly attracted to her, the feeling he has when he touches her and how he wants to know everything about her and take her out on a date. Jade is also very attracted to Jay, even though the pretty boy, successful business man has not been her type in the past. She wants to be with Jay but she’s also gun shy about starting anything with him because the betrayal from her last boyfriend has left her raw.
They are what each other is looking for, but they have to learn to forgive their pasts so that their pasts don’t weigh down and disrupt their futures. They also have to learn to forgive & love themselves so they aren’t carrying that extra baggage as well.
We do get to see the rest of the group (Marcus & Asia, Shaun & Natalie) a few times during this book and in the epilogue. I am sad that this is the last book in the series. I really like & will miss these characters, but am looking forward to more from this author.
Jay and Jade are both broken but what I loved about this story was how real and relatable these characters were. Jay was looking for love and was not finding it with all the dates his mother set him up on. Jade wasn’t looking for love but it found her anyway. They both recognized that they needed to work on themselves in order to have healthy relationships.
Jay’s baggage with his dad was heartbreaking. Wow! I cried a lot with his scenes. From him baring his soul to Jade about his father and his feelings for her I teared up a lot. I loved Jade she was a really great heroine. I am always looking for a book with a strong female lead. Jade and Jay held each other up when they needed it and fought for themselves and each other to get there HEA.
This was a beautiful book. Lots of steam and a little angst too if you are looking for that in a book.
