Who needs a Master Wizard anyway?
Major Wilbur Wiggles doesn't know it yet, but all four of his older brothers have been killed in combat. The military brass has tried to notify him, but the Major's squad has gone dark because their radios are out. Spotting an opportunity, the Fates summon Gungren for the second leg of his three-part Fate Quest. They task him with hunting down Major Wiggles on behalf of the army. His goal is to find the man, get him to army headquarters, and then take him back home so that Mrs. Wiggles doesn't lose her only remaining son.As if that wasn't tough enough, Gungren and Whizzfiddle had a falling out. That means Gungren won't have his master's help during this quest...or will he?Fans of Monty Python and Discworld will find a grand new playground in the Tales From the Land of Ononokin series.INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR:Q: What makes the Tales From the Land of Ononokin series special? A: I had just finished watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy and was thinking how much fun it would be to create a fantasy world of my own that brought in a very strange mix of our present-day cultures and those of the Middle Ages. I also wanted to alter the myths regarding standard fantasy races around a bit. I essentially turn normal fantasy on its head wherever possible, and it makes each book a laugh-out-loud blast. Q: So, why should readers give these books a try? A: Because Tales From the Land of Ononokin is a wonderful world to play in. It has comedy, interesting characters, tons of world elements to discover, and a never-ending supply of story ideas. Plus, it's not politically correct. It's also not intended for the kiddies, which means that you'll get mild adult humor thrown into the mix as well. ...and have I mentioned that the main wizard in the first story has to get a bit sloshed in order to do magic? About the authors
I spent the majority of my childhood reading and writing science fiction while learning the craft of storytelling. As I got older, I found myself working in the video games industry, which helped me to understand the concept of design, structure, and layout. One of the key components of my style is humor. I can certainly create serious stories, and have plans to do just that, but I can't help but admit that working in comedy is a lot more fun.
Here are the worlds that I'm currently working in:
* Tales from the Land of Ononokin - comedic fantasy
* The Intergalactic Research Bureau - comedic s.f.
All of my books are published through Crimson Myth Press ( www.crimsonmyth.com ).
I live in Southern California (U.S.A.) with my wife and an ever-growing population of critters.
John was raised in the MD/VA/DC area of the United States. Growing up, John had a steady interest in writing stories, playing music, and tinkering with computers. He spent over 20 years working in the video games industry where he acted as designer, programmer, and producer on many online games.
He transitioned into being a full-time author in December of 2017, focusing on urban fantasy, science fiction, fantasy, and anything else that happens to tickle his imagination.

This story is a continuation of the saga of Gungren, the tiny giant who is trying to become a "real" wizard by going on quests. It opens with a meeting by the Fates whom we last encountered in Book 5 of the series, "The Kidnapped Prince". The Fates are trying to think up a new quest for Gungren to embark on in his ongoing journey toward wizardship. They finally decide to have Gungren locate and return to his mother, a soldier, whose four brothers have been killed during a war. If this plot line seems a bit like that of "Saving Private Ryan" I suspect that it's no coincidence. Being familiar with the authors' interesting but quirky sense of humor, that similarity was probably deliberate, but trust me, this is no "Saving Private Ryan" by a longshot..
Gungren has already undergone part 1 of his "makeover" which he won from completing the first quest assigned to him. The Fates have given him a new set of perfectly aligned and very white teeth (which of course look completely out of place in the tiny Giant's mouth).
There is a misunderstanding early on, however Gungren as usual perseveres...obviously you will have to read the book to learn how. Suffice it to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was a pleasure meeting Gungren again and being able to watch him strive over and over again to always be honorable and to do good thing. He is such an appealing little character, I wish him well always.
This latest book is just as lovingly crafted as the previous ones have been and I know you will enjoy reading it.
Saving Major Wiggles is just plain fun! It's a fast paced story that will have you caring for the characters and you won't put the book down till you see what happens to them next! If your like me you will be anxiously waiting for the third quest to see how this all turns out!
How will Gungren complete his latest quest to bring Major Wiggles safely home from the war ? What rewards await Gungren if he does it?
Answer these questions and maybe learn a bit more about The Twelve and The Fates by reading this book.

I think I can safely reveal that this is the second of the three quests Gungren needs to complete to become a full wizard and to prevent him being turned back into a Giant.
The characters are, as usual, well thought out and work very well together. The situation is at once ludicrous and yet so typically military. The task is absurd and yet works perfectly. This book contains war, it contains love, it contains sadness, it contains laughter, it contains deception, it contains honesty. It has everything you could possible want.
I am trying really hard to do this without giving anything away because you need to come at this completely clean. Let it unwind and envelope you in the beautiful silliness of it all. But most of all, do read it. It is worthy of the time spent and you will not be let down.

It covers the second part of the Quests that Gungren and Whizzfiddle must undertake in order for Gungren to gain the status of full wizard, so whilst not exactly crucial, you may want to read the previous books before you dive into 'Major Wigges.'
It is a cracking tale full of characters old and new, and is packed with the humour you come to expect from these books. Can't wait for book seven! 5 stars!

There is the same level of comedy evident in this book as in the rest of the series...slight hints of dark humour, mixed in with some gentle laughter and full on laugh out loud moments. There are some new characters that have been well thought out and show glimmers of a Pratchett like sense of the world.
All in all, a good read.
