About the Author

ABOUT THEAUTHOR JáNiya Williams advanced to the fourth grade during the 2015-16 school year. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and Pensacola, Florida. She now lives in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She has three brothers, two older, and one younger. JáNiya’s great grandmother, Hazel Janell Meredith, is a younger sister of Civil Rights icon James H. Meredith. JáNiya, age nine, is the youngest published author in her immediate and extended family. ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR Calla Ridgeway was born in Morrow, Georgia, but she spent most of her life in Jackson, Mississippi. She was Valedictorian of her 5th grade class, and Salutatorian of her 8th grade class. She was promoted to the ninth grade for the 2015-16 school year, and will attend Lanier High School. She aspires to become a Veterinarian. She lives with her mother, grandmother, and older sister. Calla is JáNiya’s second cousin, and the great niece of Civil Rights icon James H. Meredith. His granddaughters and Calla are playmates. Calla, age 14, is the youngest illustrator of a published book in her family. --This text refers to the paperback edition.
