The world-renowned surgeon took on an enemy of unimaginable power: the sun. At a time when most people worshipped a sun-kissed glow, the medical techniques and messages Dr. Robins promoted had the power to affect every human being on the planet.

Born in Newark during the Great Depression, Perry Robins never had it easy, but he always made the best of it. Struggling in school with dyslexia and grueling part-time jobs, being drafted by the Army and sent overseas—none of the obstacles life threw his way could slow him down.

After his medical training from Germany to NYU, Dr. Robins studied a type of skin cancer surgery invented by Frederic Mohs, MD, at the University of Wisconsin. He brought the technique back to NYU and established the first fellowship program in Mohs surgery. Despite resistance, Dr. Robins upended conventional wisdom in the medical community by showing dermatologists that they could be skin cancer surgeons.

Today, about 40 percent of all doctors who specialize in Mohs surgery were either trained by Dr. Robins or by the doctors he trained. The Skin Cancer Foundation he founded and helped raise millions for continues to spread his message, educating the public on skin cancer and the dangers of sun exposure.

How a doctor spent his life

This is a story of how one man became a renowned doctor, philanthropist and friend to stars. The Moh's technique of skin cancer removal has come a long way due to the ingenuity and persistence of this doctor. He reveals his upbringing and college years with humor and transparency. His early years formulated his foray into medicine. He's worked on film stars and dignitaries equally as well as commonplace people. This is his story. I liked the book. Read like a conversation with a stranger in a three hour flight. Interesting and informative.

A Real "Adventure" Story About One Of The World's Best Dermatologists

This is a fascinating book about a man who starts out with very little and by his own hard work, determination,
drive, and a slight bit of luck becomes highly successful in the field of surgical dermatology. Dr. Robins has the energy of two or three people. He is the kind of doctor we all wish we have, professional, empathetic, and a true desire not only to help his patients but to help the population at large understand the risks of skin cancer. The book is a fast and easy read. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I enjoyed reading this book and learning about Dr. Perry Robin's life. He definitely had a rags to riches sort of story and saved thousands upon thousands of lives in the process. His 10 commandments of living a good life is definitely something we should all strive to do.

It contained a lot of information about skin cancer. Dr. Robins "Just Do It" life style is very inspiring. Great read!
