After waiting MONTHS, this is what I had to read?!?! The most depressing story about drug addiction and trying to get someone out of it that I've EVER read AND with no ending to the story!!!! OMG! Now I have to wait until August of 2014 to see if there is an ending to Quinton and Nova?!? I think I could have skipped this one and waited. Really didn't need all this detailed info on his drug life. Seems it could have really been condensed and let the readers have it all at once.....just drag it out, sell those books!!! Really enjoy this author, just tired of these tactics of so many....losing me.

Nova and Quinton had a challenging beginning and both have many issues past and present (Breaking Nova). Their time spent together the past summer opened the door to a connection that was unexpected, significant, erratic, and overwhelming. And it left a mark on both on them. It all came to a breaking point and they parted. Nova has worked hard to break free from her past, get healthy, and try to move on. But she cannot shake the fact that she left Quinton behind in a bad situation.

And in her absence, Quinton has sunk into a downward spiral that he cannot seem to recover from...a haze of drugs, depression, meaningless encounters, and no direction. He is on a path of destruction and embracing the peace of dying sooner rather than later. He does not care. He does not want to feel anything. But unfortunately he does feel feel negative things...terrible loss, guilt, hopelessness, and unworthiness.

It is up to Nova to chase him down and make him face his demons and fight for him even when he does not want to fight for himself. But he is barricaded behind near impenetrable walls of his own making. He is numbing his pain to keep it buried. He has a death wish. He feels unworthy. He does not feel like he deserves, happiness, Nova, or a good life due to his past mistakes.

But Nova was not able to save her boyfriend, Landon and she is determined that she is not giving up until she saves Quinton. She is a girl on a mission...a dangerous, scary, and frequently disappointing one. She is persistent, fearless, pushy and provides Quinton a sliver of hope. Although Quinton does not want to admit or truly embrace it. My heart broke again for Quinton.

My Thoughts:

I have read many Stories by Jessica Sorensen. I have learned that her prose flow beautifully, her characters are complex and multilayered, and the plots in her stories often deal with dark, realistic, and heartbreaking topics. Her stories always take me to a dark place. They have a way of pulling me in and completely hooking me. The Nova Series, is by far the darkest of all of her stories. It deals with the harsh realities, ugliness, and consequences of drug addiction.

In Saving Quinton, we get both Nova and Quinton's dual perspectives. Nova has been working on her recovery, and is in a place where she knows that she wants to heal, and live a happy life. She no longer drinks or does drugs, and she has finally dealt with her deceased boyfriend, Landon's, suicide. Nova is doing well in college, and works for a suicide hotline. She has gotten even closer to her mother, and has befriended, Lea, a young woman who she met at support group for people who have lost loved one's to suicide. Lea is a great friend and room mate. Nova can't stop thinking and worrying about Quinton. He changed her life last summer, and they had a strong connection with one another. Nova, with the help of Lea searches for Quinton. She is determined to find him and save him from his drug addiction. She feels like she failed Landon and is determined that this time she is determined to succeed in saving Quinton. However, when she finds Quinton, she realizes that saving him is going to be the challenge of a lifetime.

Quinton is in a very dark place in his life. He is a drug addict living with other hardcore addicts, and dealing drugs, so he can get the money for his much needed fix. Quinton wants to die.

"Nova was the light and I was stuck in the shadows all the time except for a few moments when she touched me, kissed me, let me touch her, and I couldn't avoid her light."

Saving Quinton, is the heart breaking follow-up to Breaking Nova. And, wow, what a freaking follow-up! This is where Jessica Sorenson excels. These two books are not romance. They are about life's struggles. They are about how we handle pain, devastating loss, and feelings of rejection and loneliness.

While this book gives us a glimpse inside Dylan and Delilah's life, the focus is mainly on Nova, Quinton and even Tristan. As with BN, Ms. Sorenson made me feel their pain, made me cry their tears, made me see their lost hopes and dreams.

"Nothing seems beautiful, not even the stuff I saw in the past. And my future, well, it seems pretty much dead, like walking toward a coffin, ready to tuck myself in and pull the lid shut"

"What I need is to find something that will get through to him, something that will make him see past whatever's blinding him to the future."

Drowning in pain and addiction, Quinton is barely surviving when Nova sets out for Las Vegas to save him. She finds him living in deplorable conditions in a dilapidated apartment with Dylan, Delilah and Tristan. Appalled and frightened by his battered body, she has never been more sure about the need to rescue someone than she is when sees him.

"Quinton, please wake up...I'm so sorry...for not seeing...for not being able to see..."

Poor Quinton, he's so lost, he's in so much pain, drowning in it. Drowning in guilt. Everyone he's trusted to be the caring adults in his life have placed blame on him. It's an awful burden to bear.
