I had to search for this book A LOT because this author has written many series and there are SO many books! I just couldn't find Declan's story soon enough.
In Saving Ren we get 3 tormented men.
Declan was mourning his sister who died of cancer and he was still hiding he was gay, because his captain was homophobic too.
Jagger is a former soldier and mercenary with a perfect bad boy attitude and body: has tattoos, he's huge and full of muscles.
Ren is broken and full of self-hatred. He's been brought home, but the year he was kept captive left deep scars: physically and mostly psychically. He wanted to disappear for a while because his nightmares made him dangerous to all his loved ones. Declan has been in love with him for over 10 years and now helps him run away from his brothers and hide in his cabin.
There's A LOT of angst, but also a lot of HOT HOT HOT scenes between these 3 broken men. I absolutely adored Jagger. He was so introverted and didn't think he'll ever find love.
It must be really hard to get 3 men to fit so well, 3 very different men, each having a rough past. But this author did it SO well. I'll be reading more from Sloane Kennedy
I also enjoyed the MCs. A lot of times in gay romance it's as if you're reading about a couple of weirdly androgynous melds. That was not the case here. The MCs had personalities of their own. I also appreciated the fact that the MCs were, for the most part, men in character, thought, and action. I read these to read romance about men, not a man and a teenage girl, or whatever weird identity mix the author has deemed appropriate for a gay man.
Vin brings Ren home and everything quickly goes to hell. Ren winds up at the police station after shooting a guy who was trying to kill Mia. Ren talked to Detective Declan Hale. Declan was his Brother Dom's brother in law. Ren is freaking out and he doesn't want to see his brothers, so Declan gives him money and the key and security code to his cabin.
Jagger who works for Barretti Security Systems is involved in an altercation os at the police station and the captain wants Declan to due the interview with him and lock him up. So they talk and Declan doesn't like Jagger and the feeling is mutual. However declan releases Jagger and the captain is pissed. The nex night Declanis at the bar where Jagger's friend Connor worksand Declan is passed out drunk. Jagger offers to take him home. the next morning Declan's alarm on his phone is going off and he bolts because it is the security on the cabin. It has been three weeks since he gave the key and code to Ren. Jagger follows. when they get there they hear gun shots and Jagger breaks in the back door.
Follow along and see what happens to the three of them. How do they handle Ren's PTSD? Ren has demons to fight can he do it alone? What happens when Ren and Rafe meet? Can Declan and Jagger live without Ren? To answer buy this book.
I loved Declan's strength, Jagger's protectiveness, and Ren ' s strong will to survive. All three come together to form a bond so strong, not even haunted memories and broken hearts can tear it apart. I am in love with the Barretti family, and want so bad to attend one of the infamous Sunday night dinners.
