If one suffers from prostate cancer one of the greatest fears is complete loss of erectile function. I found this book helped me put things into perspective. There were a number of procedures from injections, drugs, inflaters and penile prosthesis explained and I tried three out of the four. Following the radical prostatectomy, where all erectile nerves were cut because the cancer had escaped the capsule and grown over the nerve fibres, I did not realise I would miss sex so much. All treating doctors told me nerves do not grow back although one reference did indicate it was possible. I think the best advice I gleaned from a range of references including this one was the need to maintain stimulation, also known as "forget everything your mother told you". With regular stimulation during showering and at other times, slowly, the function has returned. So four years post operation with the use of Cialis and occasionally without, erectile function is adequate for sex. The lesson from all the readings is simple "never give up" Incidently Ciallis and other similar drugs, according to the European registration data, are excreted via faeces so drink lots of water after taking them. I usually have two glasses before retiring for the evening. I found the book very useful as an information source. One reference in the book to orgasm said it was a problem in about 25% of those who had had the operation. I found that to be the case until things firmed up. Good luck it can be a long, frustrating and hard road. PG

Excellent information, would be nice to have the author do an update. Tons more info than your urologist will ever tell you pre-cancer treatment......strongly recommend reading this book before treatment so that you go into the procedure you choose with more knowledge which will effect how you navigate your healing.

This book is a must read for any men having prostate cancer (PC). It is well written, in a clear language (even for someone like me whose mother language is not English). It is very comprehensive, it explains everything we need to know, much more than what regular urologists explain, even if they are doing a good job. This book really covers everything there is to know!
I really wish I had known about this book when I was first diagnosed with PC, but it has been infinitely helpful even after six months of my radical prostatectomy (prostate removal surgery). It has provided me with a clear vision of my future sex life.
The primary concern of anyone having a diagnosis of PC is of course healing form it, but this book makes you think about the second most important issue that needs to be taken care of, and usually is not. I really recommend this book. Lots of invaluable info! A real treasure of a book.

I really enjoyed this book having just gone through a radical prostatectomy less than four months ago. I will take knowledge gained from this book and have a discussion with my urologist next month when I return for a follow up PSA.

Dr. Mulhall obviously is aware of the concerns and questions of prostate patients and tries mightily to answer them. He has details that other books for prostate patients fail to answer. Highly recommended.

This book contains a huge wealth of information not only just about sex with protatw cancer, but prostate cancer itself. It has just about all the info any man would ever need to make informed decisions about treatment, and about what to expect before, during, and after treatment. What I learned by trying to find information on prostate cancer is that the available info is mostly contradicting, which led to a huge amount of confusion and a great big whallop of angst, which I could not control. Add to that that some surgeons are obviously lying about their results, and total hysterica can set in. This book explained everything I needed to know about prostate cance, and helped me make a decision about treatment, although I must say, ALL that information also set me up for WAY too many "what if" scenerios that continue to scare me. However, if I hadn't read this book, I certainly would't have known what to ask, and that was very, very helpful.
