"You are taken completely off guard by how the story ends" -- Johnny LY

From the Author

It sometimes seems you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a novel about an Indian kid in a small town, and one that involves a porn store, pyromania and a dash of good ole time religion. I hope you give this one a try so you can compare it with the others.

I really enjoyed reading Ron Smith's book, The Savior of Turk. The unique characters and their interactions in the small town of Turk is enough to keep your interest "burning". In particular, I really enjoyed the characters of Bhanu and Cassie. Using the backdrop of small town life to detail the integration of cultures is very effective. The ending left me wanting more. Thank you Ron for an enjoyable book.

Mr. Smith has set himself a high bar, creating the character of a young Indian immigrant plunked down in the Midwest USA. A tough objective that he accomplishes with wit, humor, and insight into the idiosyncrasies of human nature. Congrats!

I typically read more dramatic books, so this one was a welcomed relief. Although it did have some serious situations, it was a clever mix of humor and reflective moments. It was very descriptive and detailed. I felt like I was watching a movie. I really can't think of any other books or movies to compare it to because it truly is one of a kind!!

The premise is funny on its own (dying small town pins hopes on new business, new business turns out to be "adult"), but the many contrasts within the story provide laughs as well as introspection.

Did I mention that the lead character is an English-educated immigrant Indian transplanted into middle America, who faints at the touch of a female and dabbles in arson? That, alone, will keep you turning the pages to see who or what really gets saved.

Delightful story-telling through different characters' perspectives, endearing interweaving of stories, a mysterious protagonist with a habit for fainting and fire, and a town focused most on what's happening next door. A great read.
