Xavier- You have done it again my friend! Thank you for giving us a story about family, even though they might not always be blood. I love you to the moon and back!!!💋
First let me say that, I have to give kudos to any author that can use the much dismissed and feared 2nd person narrative (in a genre book no less) and make it work. In the first five books of Xavier Neal’s Senses series, the tale of best friends turned lovers Maxx and Logan is told in alternating sections. Using the 1st and 2nd narrative point of views by the two lead characters Neal successfully creates a story and relationship dynamic that is at times sexy, sweet and endearing. As a reader I felt very much a part of the story due to the technique that was used and I hate to keep going on about it, but I truly was/am impressed at how well it worked out. I can’t recall (outside of school textbooks, articles or blog post) having read something, particularly a narrative work that utilized 2nd POV so well. And that I found such a success in a romantica genre book is even more thrilling!
Now, after all that praise I don’t want to mislead and say the books are without flaws. There are moments for sure that will have you going eh, but nothing is perfect. I can’t even recall most of the moments that weren't perfect, because I enjoyed the story so much and found the writing smooth and easy-to-read. This is the type of romance and guilty pleasure I prefer. Something that gives me characters to root for and doesn't insult my intelligence.
Another thing to point out in the characterizations is that everyone stayed true to who they were. Even when their characters were evolving they didn't suddenly get a brain transplant and start doing things completely outside of who they were presented to be. Their struggles and doubts were believable and their conflicts and resolutions suited to the situations. Again, there were moments that weren't perfectly penned, particularly an adoption scenario comes to mind. But otherwise the overall story arc(s) were well balanced.
Xavier is one to watch. I’ve actually started her next series and although I’m not sure I’ll get through that one anytime soon, I am very impressed with what she did with this one and I know that she’ll only continue to grow as an author. If you want a touching, fun, sexy and endearing book series, that will give you a satisfying arc from start to finish, look no further than the Senses series (Books 1-5).
4.0 - characters | 4.0 - story | 4.5 for writing technique
I highly recommend this series!
I loved it!!
Savor is the fifth book of Senses Series and it is the conclusion of Maxx and Logan's story whom from the start captured my heart.
I just love these two and I know despite their misunderstandings and wrong assumptions about each other they were meant to be together.
There are times in their whole story that I get annoyed only to realized that their reaction in that certain moment is just normal and I totally get it since I know their personality as if I'm the one who wrote their story.
I loved how Logan put Maxx first before his career, fought for her and for their family to be together..
To sum this book and Maxx and Logan's story:
It is a K. O. read!
It is a feel good book like eating your very cupcake.
It is funny and interesting.
Logan Kellar will definitely be added in your BBF list. Remember : he gotchu.
I am also pretty excited for the next book to come.. I really want to know more about Lukr, CJ, Tony, Erin and Dean!
