This handsome volume is divided into six sections by the types of dishes such as "Little Bites and Pours" and "The Main Dish." I have an oyster recipe in this book though I'm not a chef, I'm a NJ historian with a special interest in food. Using their creative skills, Cheryl and Kate covered not only some Food Network stars, Miss America 2013, and local trend setters, but also previously unknown cooking enthusiasts with great recipes. From Master Chef David Burke's "Grilled Whole Salmon with Grilled Vegetables" to first responder and "avid cook" Sean O'Leary's "Black Thai," you'll find something for everyone. Many fish and meat dishes are included but there are plenty of vegetarian selections too.
The main ingredients that make this book a success are a love of food and a love for our NJ Shore. Cheryl and Kate experienced Sandy in 2012 and decided to do something to help. All of the proceeds from "Savoring the Shore" will benefit projects in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. The authors have said "it's a gift that gives twice." So true!
