About the Author

Ben is an award-winning author of several books for wildly divergent audiences. The Savvy Cyber Kids At Home: The Family Gets A Computer (October, 2010) is a picture book which teaches the concepts online safety and privacy to preschool age children. The Savvy Cyber Kids At Home: The Defeat of the Cyber Bully (October, 2011) teaches our children how to appropriately respond to a cyber bully before they start playing in the virtual world. For those in the business field, Ben has published Auditing Cloud Computing: A Security and Privacy Guide (July 2011) through John Wiley & Sons. Seeing a void in the conversation about online safety for children before they begin K-12, Ben created a nonprofit to represent those who cannot speak for themselves: infants, toddlers and preschool children. Savvy Cyber Kids, Inc. was founded in 2007 and is now working with the National Cyber Security Alliance and other organizations towards filling the gap. Ben Halpert is leading the mission: to keep all kids, including his own, safe online. Ben comes by his passion and expertise honestly. By day, he is the Director of Information Technology Risk Management and Compliance for a Fortune 500 firm. By night, he is a champion for the protection of children in cyberspace. Ben was a contributing author to Readings and Cases in the Management of Information Security and the Encyclopedia of Information Ethics and Security. Ben writes the security column for Mobile Enterprise Magazine and has contributed to seven NIST special publications and Ben is on the advisory board of numerous colleges and universities. He has keynoted and presented sessions at numerous conferences, including the RSA Security Conference, InfoSec World, IEEE, and ACM conferences. Ben is an adjunct instructor at a local University where he teaches the Master's of IT information security concentration curriculum. Ben is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and holds two Master's degrees. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

I picked up the first two books of this series as a gift for a friend, not having any kids of my own. Tom gave the books to his kids - a boy, 6, and his little girl, 4 - and within a short period messaged me on Facebook to let me know that his kids were really enjoying the books. He said "[His son] LOVES those books. He has already read both of them at least three times each. [His daughter] sat through every reading pointing out the cool graphics."

It's great to know that the author's writing and the illustrations really appeal to young children. Their enjoyment of the book ensures that they will remember the strategies it offers for on-line safety. If you have pre-school or early school-age kids who use computers on the Internet, this is cheap insurance against on-line bullying and security issues. The author, Ben Halpert, is a qualified information security expert so you know the advice is good; better still, your kids will actually enjoy reading this series!

The Defeat of the Cyber Bully is not only fun for kids to read but it also teaches an important lesson about what to do if you are being bullied...in person or online. Most people think about bullying at school but the internet is another environment where bullying can occur and it is important for kids of all ages to know what to do when this happens. I also think it is great that the author provides resources online for kids, parents, and teachers and the illustrations are bold and colorful...the Bully, Cyber Princess and Cyber Thunder would make great Halloween costumes!

I found this book to be interesting and informative. I plan to read this book over and over to my children 3 & 5 years old. The book gives a realistic situation that happens on a regular and how to handle the situation properly. This book also teaches both the child and the adult on how to deal with a bully.

I just brought this book back from a conference and read it to my class today. They love it! I think it's the characters and their superhero alter-ego that really resonates with my 4-yr-olds. And I love life lesson it teaches, not just about dealing with cyber-bullies, but bullies in general.

As an elementary library media specialist it is challenging to find quality content at the appropriate level for the very young reader on Internet safety. The Cyber Kids are engaging characters that discuss an important subject in a simple, direct manner.
